Version 12, apparently is very good. Fixes a load of things and is more of a service pack in some ways apparently. I've almost finished flashing mine, hope it's good!

what service provider you with fella , i am on t-mobile and dont seem to be able to get the firmware update as yet !

Alex Slane :)

i know fella making me think to be honest , i am not sure what the hell is going on , maybe the v12 firmware did not pass t-mobiles inspection or someything , i know that service providers are given the firmware to try out before it gets a official release but this is starting to take the biscut , i am thinking of changing the product code with nemisis but wanted to wait to be honest as most of the time if something comes out later there is a reason ...... well thats what i thought , what do you reckon i should do , is it worth changing the code for the sake of keeping up to date and voiding warranty , i mean i know that i can change code back , but if i get any problems of warranty stuff if i sent it back the technicains would know aswell that the firmware was diffrent.

i say change ** product code i did and am with vodafone
my phone seems a lot more stable faster gsp lock and some and a lot of other things like voip etc

lol, didn't realise it had been out for so long! Thought it was a new one.

I'm on T-Mobile as well, download NSS and change your product code to plum 1 euro, update the phone then change the product code back to T-Mobile again.

I don't think anyone would bother to check what firmware was on it etc. In fact I sent a Vario II back once which had a keyboard problem, the phone was unlocked and the firmware totally different but they just sent me a new one.

I put my Orange product code into the checker thing on the Nokia website to see what the 'latest' available firmware was for it, and it didn't even recognise the code  God bless NSS

i've just got an n95 yesterday, i've no idea about updating firmwares. i'm on vodafone - how do i go about updating it, and will i loose all my settings etc so far (which tbh aint much cos ive been too busy to play!)

The Version 12 firmware, for a lot people, has a major problem where the phone doesn't always respond to key presses. Sometimes you have to press a key twice before the phone registers the press. I'd strongly advise those who haven't updated their firmware NOT to until we know for sure that the problem has been fixed. You'll be really ****ed off with yourself if you find you get this problem as you cannot go back to an older firmware version.

No swearing please!

Got my N95 yesterday from O2 was riddled with crap so i used the nemesis thing to change the product id to a EURO 1, then i just used nokia software updater to update to version 12, it is now more responsive, and smoother :) and all the O2 crap has gone as it is now unbranded yay!

After you lot gave me a kick up the ass to stop being a pleb and get on with doing stuff , Well took your advice and took the plunge , changed my product code to the euro1 , got to say bloody brilliant massive inprovment and the gps lock is now phenomenal.took ages to lock on out side my house , now well what can i say its there with in 5-10 secs.
Weird one though had to convince the updater that i was on the product code "euro1" which was about 113kb's and when i changed my product code back in nemesis back to t-mobile code then popped up the update for my t-mobile settings which was 117kb ( good thing is though there is now no branding :) )

overall a massive improvment on the handset as above feels smoother more responsive and like the phone it was meant to be .......

Update just been playing with my browser and found that not only do i have 3g i got 3.5g lol which equals H.S.D.P.A which i did not have before and looking at the way it loads up the page it defo works lol .

Thanks for the advice guys i now got a unbranded , unlocked ,super smooth ,power pocket device that kicks ass !!!!

All the best and thanks again

Your phone will have always been working at HSDPA speeds, just you wouldn't have known as the 3G symbol was all you got. The 3.5G symbol is just to let you know that you are definitely connected by HSDPA.

Its never been there before fella ......

I upgraded to this last week from v11 and I havent noticed anything different - infact, this version has more annoyances than the last - the flashing buttons when it goes into power save mode - stuff like that.

I'm sure it's faster etc but definately not noticable.

I love having this phone in the states, the US guys that I show it to are amazed with it - infact they're pretty much amazed with any Nokia phone as they only get Motorolas out here (well, on the most part!)

ok, self confessed idiot here..

i have an n95 on vodafone, it has vodafone branded firmware. can i get shot of this by changing it to euro1 using nemesis, flash it with an unbranded firmware and then get my settings back off the vodafone page (so i still have all the data connections etc setup)

I dunno, my Orange settings were all still there when I updated the firmware...

Oh wait, that reminds me, remember to BACK UP your phone using the Nokia PC Suite, it backs up settings too, which must have been why I was able to restore my Orange settings, despite flashing the phone.

Gutted! Just bricked mine flashing it.

Changed product code to Euro one from Orange no worries. Then ran NSU to update firmware, dectected that there was now an update available for it.

Update process kicked in...got to about 50% then it just comes up with 'Recovery Mode'
1 Remove battery and charger,
2 Replace battery and charger then restart phone
3 Hit retry

You hit retry and it just goes into an infinite loop of the same process :(

Any advice on fixing this is greatly appreciated. I do have insurance on the phone but rather than dropping it from a great height in order to 'accidentally' smash it I would rather just fix it

How do I format or hard reset a N95?

We accept no responsibility for use of this code. It is undocumented, not supported by Nokia and should be used at your own risk.

The soft-format code for Series 60 phones is *#7370# . You enter this code as you would enter a phone number in the Phone application. It performs a format of the Internal drive - All data will be lost if you use this feature.

The method of performing a hard-format, i.e resetting it completely to factory defaults and removing all data, is as follows:

Switch off the phone.
Hold down the following three buttons: Green (call answer) button, * button, and '3' button
While holding these buttons, press the power button and switch on the phone
When the message 'Formatting' appears on the screen, release all of the buttons
Note that you shouldn't switch the phone off or remove the battery when performing either of these operations, and it's advised that the handset has a reasonable amount of battery charge before performing a format/reset.

hard reset it and do not restore the backup from the nokia pc suit as it will brick your phone as its copying all the old firmware back to the new if u do u can just restore your contacts and add ** other data manualy
