New Nas and Jay-z albums are coming!

dres album is still under construction...hes a funny person right now...

nas is the greatest lyricist along with rakim enough said...but i like nas more

jay-z ok he is slightly over-rated now but if you listen to Reasonable Doubt (the best jay-z album ever) you will see why he is rated as much as he is...thats one of the best albums ever id rate it alongside Illmatic! jays lyrics are fiyah on that album and if uve ever heard jay-z freestyles and jay-z's lyrical songs ull understand why hes in most people's top 5's

nas has been plauged with bad production a bit recently but still illmatic, it was written and stillmatic and half the tracks from all his other albums make his catalogue on of the greatest if not the greatest in hip hop...the only problem with nas is that because his first album is the greatest hip hop album ever people expect him to build upon it and he cant do it...he makes album in the same league but not as good so he gets dissed and down rated...i suppose you could call it the gift and the curse of illmatic

bare with me i dont know how to multi quote so ill answer all your questions

give me mos-def and talib over nas and jay-z any day

ok maybe through musical preference i can understand but lyrically they both have mad skills but in comparison to nas? sorry nas is the greatest with rakim everyone knows that...

The beef between the two of them was quite amusing for a while(incidentally I'd say Jay-Z came out on top in that particular battle) but aside from that I'm not particularly bothered about either albulm, there are better rappers out there - as Jay-Z himself said he 'dumbed down to double his dollars' which hardly inspires confidence that this will be anything much.

Nas killed jay-z in the beef...look at the song Ether...its one of the best if not the best diss song ever...i dont like saying this becuase i like Nas and Jay-z as much as each other but NaS won and they even had a poll on who won and nas came out 60-40

The black album was the last album he did

yes it was his last album...commercially everyone loved it...critically speaking it was nowhere near his best but it was ok...lyrically he didnt even bother on that album

lol, was going to say exactly the same if you didn't

In my opinion Jay-Z is better then Nas, even though i like Nas and albums such as Illmatic and God's Son, i prefer Jay-Z. Everyone says listen to Reasonable Doubt to get the best of him, however i disagree, The Blueprint or In My Lifetime are his best albums in my opinion.

Can't wait for the album launch, his first single, "Show Me What You Got" sounds good.

ok i can understand your opinion but NaS is the better lyricist and im not speaking out of bias...yeah Jay-Z hits hard lyrically and musically on the blueprint so i can understand why you might like that more than RD and In my Lifetime was another amazing album by jay-z but again becuase his first album was like Illmatic one of the best ever Volume 1: In my lifetime had a bad reception by critics but its still one of the best albums

i guess pre 1998 hip hop is hard to get into for the younger generation because it requires more concentration (im not dissing anyone i dont know anyones age) but im 16 and i found it harder to get into but once you do you realise why people dont appreciate hip hop anymore

you know what, i didnt actually mean the black album, it was the dynasty that was my favourite though thats not a popular opinion. I believe it was after that that he went downhill.

dynasty was a good album too and the intro of the album where jay raps is considered to be vintage jay...his lyrics on the intro are amazing...

Things have changed a lot since Illmatic sadly, It Was Written had some decent tracks on it but he's gone way downhill since.

If you like that early 90's sound though check out Pete Rock & CL Smooth - The Main Ingredient and Mecca and the Soul Brother, both top notch Hip Hop albums and way different to the crap that passes as Hip Hop these days.

Illmatic and It was written are classics and he hasnt gone downhill since...thats like saying da vinci went downhill after the Mona Lisa...you cant out do it...its harsh to say he went downhill he just couldnt do another album as good...stillmatic enters the league but isnt as good...HHID (hip hop is dead) might be as good as IWW or Illmatic by what NaS and his longtime producer who produced a lot in Illmatic said theyve never heard anything like HHID...

and its true pete rock and cl smooth have an authentic 90's sound...their most popular song is they reminisce over you and thats pure 90's

people who say jay-z has dropped off need to listen more...he just did a 5 minute freestyle yesterday and slayed it...hes back!

but i think kingdom come will be another commercial album and then hopefully hell get his grind on and do another RD (reasonable doubt) for his true fans

lol^^

i mean the 5 minute freestyle had great lyrical content which means he can still spit vintage jay-z lyrics

I thought he (Jay-Z) retired, was it just a publicity stunt then?

he retired then decided to come back after 3 years...i dont think it was for publicity because he became the President of Def Jam and he was always around music and seeing as thats his passion he probably wanted to do it again

Yeh, thats what he said in an interview, because hes still always in the studio he realised that he wanted to be an artist again. I wouldn't be surprised if Eminem did this, after Proof's death i think he will be planning a come back, lets hope so to be honest.

im glad jays coming back but ive never warmed too much to eminem even though he is a good lyricist...i dont know why though he hasnt appealed to me

damn i know modern hip hop is **** but i expected nas to stick to how he used to be :(

all the early 90s stuff is great

this thread made me get illmatic out for a listen and its still amazing :)

yeah thast the definition of a classic...12 years on and it sounds as good as it did the first time you heard it...its being overused now, the word classic

Yeh, my friend is like that, he thinks Eminem has amazing talent and understands why most people like him but he "just" doesn't.

yeah...i know a few people like that...i listen to his music now and again but ive never bought his albums or i dont listen to him when i want to listen to music
