Has anybody heard of the next generation of netbooks coming out. Wanting one but not sure whether to wait if there is more just around the corner.

Cheers

Nothing revolutionary, the Atom will get some slightly less power hungry chipsets that should also improve HD video playback, and you should start to see more Nano based units that seem to have a tad more cpu power (plus 64-bit, 4gb ram max) over the atom.

There is also rumor of a wave of ARM powered netbooks coming, but if X86 windows is your bag then they probably won't interest you.

It will be just for general browsing and maybe the odd game that it can run. when are the nano ones looking to come out

There is a nano based samsung NC20 which has just been released, is meant to be excellent, its 12" screen so a little larger than most but on the plus side the resolution and keyboard size is a lot better.

yeah been looking it but after a ten inch one at max

I want this: http://macles.blogspot.com/2009/03/acer-aspire-one-116.html

4.3W TDP, 11.6" 1366 x 768 screen, hardware H.264 decoding, Atom Z530, etc. Looks lush. And I could play Civ 3 properly on it (sucks on 1024x600 MSI Wind) :p

By all accounts these aren't going to be classed as netbooks as such, in fact there going to be part of Acers 'Pro' line.

I'm looking forward to it but I just know it aint going to be AAO cheap.

As for ion, doubt we are going to see it in a cheapy netbook anytime soon, it will be stuck into nettops first which can genrally be priced at a slight premium. Poulsbo will be doing the rounds first (like the above acer), its just unfortunate the GMA500 has horrible drivers with no linux support.
