Hi all

I've just got my new amd motherboard and cpu and put it all together. Performance is great in windows and for general stuff such as browsing, however its not so great in games. Whenever the system needs data from the hard drive it stutters, and sometimes holds sound (for example NFS:MW when you are about to race and have to press enter)

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I just looked in device manager and the ide controller is listed as a standard ide controller, should it be listed as this?

Thanks for your time :)

That was a quick reply :) I've got a KN8 Ultra and opty 144. Geil golden dragon ram and a pcie 6600gt graphics card. Two old grandad ata100 hard drives and the rest is all standard affair really!

Any ideas mate?

Yeah it arrived yesterday, sound card is onboard so I've no idea. I do have a PCI sound blaster live (original sb live) laying around somewhere though. I just didnt understand why microsoft was providing "standard pci ide" for my hard drives?

My mates got a abit NF7s thing and that has Nvidia nforce 2 ide..... so I'm thinking mine should say that its nvidia and not standard stuff? Am I right on that one?

I downloaded the latest nforce ones and left them on my other hard drive. I installed them but it still says standard hard drive. I just installed the ones off the cd which now gives me the proper ide controller name, but the stutter still persists.

Incidentally, I have the exact same problem, but with a gig of RAM, PCI sound, Raptors in RAID 0, and a different board, LOL. Common denominator seems to be the opteron... :/

Hello mate,

Just a little update for you... I've managed to fix my stuttering and performance funnies by using the nforce drivers that were on my motherboard disc instead of the latest version which I already had downloaded from the nvidia webpage. Give them a go and see how you get on?

(I also managed 2700mhz earlier, not sure I'm brave enough to go further :p)
