Hey ive been running the surfboard since boradband was launched with NTL and i thought seems the new 20MB will be roling out to my area soon i will get a new cable box. So i got one of them Blue 250 ones. Now All the lights flash saying theres activity and everything is ok, yet the internet is not working :( does anybody know how to fix this or is there any instalation CD's i need.

PS - Also it is connected to a router if that makes any differnce

NTL register the mac address of their modems. The MAC is tied to your account (don't get this confused with the MAC of your router etc.). You will have to call them, explain you bought a new modem in preparation for the 20Mbit upgrade.

You may have to explain it a few times though. No doubt they will think you're asking them to update the MAC of the router/computer connected to the modem.

you may need to register the modem on their network. Support can sometimes do it if you get one with a brain attached.

OR....

Turn off the modem.
Disconnect your Ethernet cable.
Turn on the modem.
Wait for the SYNC and READY lights to go steady
Plug in the ethernet cable.
Wait for your PC to get an IP Address
(approx 10-20 seconds - watch taskbar for "dancing" icons to go steady or dissapear)
start your web browser and go to https://autoreg.autoregister.net
This should load up a VirginMedia page

You will need the "PID" you first used on the first signup to NTL. (Or you can get this from the support guys)
Your modem serial number is "ntl-ct8-cj486"

The rest should be easy. Once complted, just follow the "turn it all off and back on again" instructions when that page appears. :)

Hi

as the guy above said you have to register the unit with virgin tech support. i had to get a replacement last week ready for the 20mb upgrade, i was on the 110 modem and now some new tiny black thing about 1/3rd of the size. anyway we had some problems with ours and took 2 attempts to register it and about 5 minutes to wait before it actualy activated on the 2nd attempt. make sure you have your rj45 unplugged to your computer or router though or it confuses its self and won't do anything.

Last time I tried to register a new NTL modem they said they wouldn't register a mac addresses unless they issued it originaly.
