Shocking TBH.
Since when has using the word black being a racist thing?

I really do fail to see how using a descriptive colour of something without any racial connotation is about being PC at all.

So can I no longer order a vehicle in black then? Pretty sure my motorbike is described as being black on the V5. Damn racist DVLA.

go read up on 'baa baa black sheep', then come back and post again :p

A grand a month? I guess kids are expensive.

OT but a grand a month is very expensive !

My son goes to a childminder full time and I pay less than half that amount and she is excellent.

A classic case of a white middle class pen pusher telling us what the ethnic population of this country find offensive and avoiding future court cases but not actually looking at what they are changing, the impact of that change and how stupid it makes this country look.

It depends on the age of the kids and stuff. We were looking at similar money, infact more at one place.

im not saying anyone should stop doing anything, just advising that someone should go and read the history of the nursery rhyme before going off about it :]
Ahh good, I'll celebrate with some black sheep ale then.

you have a shockingly cheap childminder then, my son goes to a child minder for half a week and we pay somewhere near £400 a month

can you give us a link because so far my search has found nothing racist in the history of the nursery ryhme. whats your source? :)

time for a new nursery...

Next they'll be banning snow white or changing it's name to Snow white and the 7 veritically challenged humans.

 this eye roll is aimed at those making the decisions

theyve already removed Snow White from the reading list

I hate the fact a black person could call someone white trash, but if it was the white person saying something like , what rhymes with tigger, there would be a HUGE fuss.

Thought it was relevant.

from what I remember it was to do with the black sheep representing a black slave serving white people.
will have a look and see what i can find :]

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/600470.stm - there is mention of the slavery in the quoted guidelines telling schools not to sing it.

But you are quoting a newspaper article, which doesnt show its sources, guidelines I have found dont show their sources either. The problem exists because any use of the word is linked to the slave trade and negative implications, yes i can understand the idea behind blackmail, which is negative, but black board? it's a colour of a display board using chalk for gods sake!!!
I can find no link to slavery in the search for a background on the ryhme. See if you can find a link that isn't a news story I am yet to find one.

OT, but:

We pay our childminder £45 a week to look after our daughter 9-1.30, 4 days a week. This was much cheaper than nurseries, unless we could get her into a nursery that was part of the missus' chain of nurseries. One nursery was close to £500 a month, because it would cost us x amount extra with us needing 30 mins over the cost of a morning session etc.

Most childminders around here however charge between £2.50 and £3 an hour, which is very reasonable.

You may want to read that again, there is no mention of a paper article at all, it quotes official guidelines that were given to the school by Birmingham City Council
