These are cards aimed at the CPGPU market and are used for scientific calculations. They are based on the G80 core and use the power of the GPU in scientific calculations. They have nothing to do with physics or display.
They are available as addin cards, rack mounts or deskside units. They have been out for some time, and are aimed at the HPC market, and nothing to do with gaming or display whatsoever.
It's just reusing the same silicon for multiple purposes, G80 = 8800, Quadro and Tesla each aimed at a different market, Gaming, CAD, Scientific
