New Nvidia driver lets GSYNC work in a window

I've had the red gsync light on my rog swift on the whole time, even at the windows desktop, for the last few driver releases.

Thought something like this was on the way.

Just updated to the new driver and the led is still red on the desktop on my swift.

I'm sure I read somewhere that it's because of a workaround to get g-sync to work properly on windows 10. So it may never be fixed and it happens on all g-sync monitors (though not all indicate it with a light like the Swift). I don't think its really an issue.

It is because you now have no way of knowing whether G-Sync is functioning correctly without loading a game up and inspecting it for tearing or frame drops causing a lack of smoothness.

This wasn't an issue previously. If G-Sync wasn't operating as soon as a game loaded up, you knew instantly.
