New nvidia GPU card launch October 30th

No lol mate they are very bad in that area always have been.
I can remember their VIVO fiasco with vista and I am STILL WAITING FOR THE DRIVERS ATI.......

Curiously enough, the only drivers which have ever caused me a pain were Nvidia ones. So replaced the card with an ATi one and all was good.

I suspect PEBKAC on both counts, which is why I never moan about drivers.

I changed from nvidia cards because i was sick of the driver stopped responding errors while trying to play games.Using vista 64 with sli 8800s a single 8800 and a single gtx 260 always the same problem. The pc is stock clocks.Since i got my 4870 x2 and now 5870 ive never had this problem.

Sounds nasty but I've been using Nvidia cards for years and x64 Vista/7 for the past 2 years and not had a driver stopped responding error once.

Everyone has different experiences. Luck and configuration plays into it.

lolz, the 5870 beats all nvidia cards exept the dual GPU GTX 295 but the 5870 is CLOSE, and with two 5870 you beat anything yet out ;)
and yes PhysX is pointless now that windows 7 has been released and DirectX 11 for Vista is out

@phill1978, get the 5870, its a nice deal, and you get Dirt 2 with some of the cards like Sapphire :)

when nvidia comes out with their next gen they will cost more than 5870 and the 5870 will still be fast and in crossfire faster ;)

Hmm some really bad fanboy posting here....

with two 5870 you beat anything yet out ;)

Sure? wouldn't 2 x 295 beat that?

yes PhysX is pointless now that windows 7

Why is that? Physx still runs fine in windows 7

when nvidia comes out with their next gen they will cost more than 5870 and the 5870 will still be fast and in crossfire faster

Can you post the link for your info on pricing and speeds? as im sure nothing has yet been post to say what costs more or what will be more powerful? couldnt fermi come out and be slower but cheaper? Also based on you argument wouldnt 2 x Fermi would be faster than 2 x 5870 so again fail to see your point?

wel lucky i wont choose my card to november as i will get time to see what is out or coming and makem y judgment on that i really want to stay NV for the drivers and compatability support but if the wait is to long may have to settle for a ATI but maybe the x2 version should it be out :) or the Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5870 Vapor-X as o feel it would look sexy in my corsair 800d.

The point is this:

Curiously enough, the only drivers which have ever caused me a pain were Nvidia ones. So replaced the card with an ATi one and all was good.

have more driver probs on my nvidia box than the ati one.

The point of my post isn't to say "lol, nVidia have the problems" it's because you think because you've had issues, then it's fact that ATi drivers have issues, when in reality, the nature of PCs is that people will have problems with hardware.

I've had problems with drivers for most pieces of hardware, it's like saying "there's a problem with windows, I'll never use windows again, it's crap"

"oh wait, how am I gonna play all those game?"

PhysX is doomed to fail, with windows 7 comes direct compute and with that comes OpenCL and new GPU accelerated PhysX, who's going to want support a propriatary nVidia technology that's based on lies?

Quad SLI = rubbish

Who are you trying to deceive? Do you really think new nVidia cards are going to be cheaper? nVidia are the biggest nVidia fanboys going, they're gonna price it high and insist it's worth the extra for a "premium" product.

Premium = extra money for less performance maybe?

Say your theory is correct, then why was the GTX285 more expensive, yet a lot slower than a 4870X2? Why was a GTX295 slightly faster than a 4870X2, yet cost 70% more money?

When you're talking about a non-nVidia premium, you're looking at 10-20% more money, with nVidia, you can get up to double the price before it gets "too expensive".
