New Nvidia projects, less ppd

I've had several of the new WUs and not had any die on me. I think heatwise in many cases it's the power regulation area of the graphics cards that misses out on decent cooling. For those not in the know that's around where your PSU plugs into the card.

Thanks for the info Mattus, i've seen you posting on the folding forum.

I haven't had any die on me yet, but yesterday I did 10wu (2 above average, wasn't using the PC much :)) and they scored 1000ppd less the last day I did 10!

I been robbed...:mad:

Grrr!

Well, I HAD to open me big gob, didn't I...! :mad:

I've been getting errors every time I d/l one of these 'new' WU since last night.

Keeps telling me I've got an 'UNSTABLE MACHINE'!

That's a laugh, my GPU (8800GT) isn't even overclocked!

The core tries 3 or 4 of them then gives an EUE limit exceeded error and shuts itself down for 24 hours.

If I manually restart it does the same every time it gets a 'new' WU.

If I persevere until it gets one of the 'old' WUs, the 480 credit ones, all is well, it happily runs those...

It's not temps 'cos first thing this am when I found out about it, the GPU hadn't crunched since 2am, and was at 55 degrees, and it never goes above 77....

It's just something about these 'new' WUs.

Anyone else got these probs...?

:mad::mad::mad::mad:

/end rant

I've trashed at least half a dozen in the last day or so. Stanford reckon it's due to some over-zealous checking code which thinks the calculations are duff when they're not. They're supposed to be releasing a new core to correct it, but I'm not sure why they've started sending the WUs out again before they've released it :confused:

I got myself a nice shiny (used) 9800GX2 for folding/gaming. Good news - the ppd is fantastic, plus i can game/watch DVDs etc without having to tone down the folding effort. The bad news... These new WUs turn a hot card into a scorching card... Hit 80C last night whilst it was folding. The poor things going to melt..!
