Just took delivery of a shiny new GTX 780 :D What about that reference cooler, it's just pure quality! Do we think this is a once-off, or a new standard that we should expect in £300+ graphics hardware? Would love to see AMD do something similar.

It is nice to see, AMD are supposedly preparing better coolers for the 9000 series.

One things for sure, titan coolers are 1000x better then the crud they threw on the 670's :p

Just out of interest are the titan/780/770/760 coolers all exactly the same or are they just the same design but different sizes?

Also is it really fair to call them titan coolers when the metal style cooler was first introduced with the 690?

Better coolers, if that "leak" was true they're basically the 7990 coolers cut down, so decent for sound and temps but ugly! :D Performance is all that matters, you're not going to see them once they're in your rig so i guess thats a very minor niggle :)

That's what I was about to say, the 690 started that design style and it was reworked for the titan and 780, moving the fan and more than likely a few other changes

Thread fails to deliver. No images.

All I can see when examining images of GTX780 varieties is basically the same old reference cooler they've been fitting for years, just with some of the heatsink exposed (and I estimate this would make it even less efficient as airflow will leak) metal looking materials. Am I missing something?

Well you must be seeing as it runs far quieter for a blower style fansink than most that have come before it. And no the heatsinks not exposed, its enclosed with a polycarbonate transparent window. :)

Better?

Sorry for lack of pics. Kudos to the member who posted them above.

This is a different animal to what we're accustomed to, its pure aluminium rather than plastic. Nice and quiet too..

It is incredibly nerdy but when I opened the box for mine today I just sat and admired the card for a good 10 minutes. It really is a beautiful bit of design :)

Now all I need is to get some drivers that bloody work /facepalm

Ah nice pics. It does look nice.

Still the age old basic blower fan design, just with pretty bits. Hey but at least when the heatsink gets clogged with dust you'll be able to see when it's time to open the card up to clear it out.

never heard of fan filters ?

Some dust still creeps in regardless.

Design may be old but they seem to have went to town making it quiet and efficient, which is a welcome move. :)

With aluminium things should be slightly cooler. And one advantage of the old blower design is that it exhausts all of the heat out of the case. After market coolers aren't always better than the reference designs. In some cases they're simply used to cut costs. My old Palit gtx 460s had the cheapest crappiest coolers I've ever seen...
