Howdy folks,

So, I got a new PC last week (Photon Envy with 780GTX), and I'm completely thrilled with it, except the issues I'm having with getting online.

I have an insane amount of WiFi enabled devices to compare against, and they all work absolutely fine. The PC however has nothing but "poor" signal strength, via 2.4ghz whatever I do.

Eventually I managed to get around this by switching to 5ghz and messing with Channels via inSSIDer, but 2.4ghz continues to have absolutely none of it.

The problem I'm now having is that I'm housesitting for someone for two weeks, and I have taken my PC so I have something to keep me occupied. These guys only have 2.4ghz, and surprise surprise, I'm having the exact same problem here too. I don't have any Ethernet cable to connect properly, but even RIGHT next to the router, it's still nothing but poor. Unusable, basically.

So with this mind. I have a couple of questions that I'm hoping some of you wise folks may be able to assist with:

Since I've now established that I get only a tenuous 2.4 signal in two different houses (which is not a problem for literally any other device) is there a chance that that the 'pickup' in my PC for this frequency is just plain broken? Can one frequency still work, while the other doesn't? Is there a way to definitively confirm that?

Is there something I'm missing that you folks may be able to suggest? Unfortunately since I cant connect to the internet via the PC I can't provide any screen dumps. All I can do is desperately beg for help via my crappy PS Vita browser.

I'm going to go completely nuts trapped out in the sticks for 2 weeks with no internet.

Yours desperately,
Neil

External antennas connected?
Internal antenna tails connected to wireless adapter properly?
Correct divers installed?

If yes to all of the above I'd be posting on the customer service forums. Let OcUK deal with it.

Well I've just opened her up, and I can see that the two wifi antennae are both hooked up to the chip on the mainboard seemingly correct (I'm terrible with the hardware side of things) and according to windows, its drivers are up to date. I'm not entirely convinced by that though, as I cant even get a website to load, so I hav no idea how its checking that.

Hmmm seems like I might have to go through the proper support route.

Thanks for the suggestions though, I appreciate it.

If anyone else has any ideas, I'm all ears/eyes.

Getting right next to the router was more for testing purposes. That particular setup isn't somthing that's sustainable in a practical sense.

That said, I COULD just buy a much longer cable, but that would be kinda beside the point. With the amount I've just spent on this PC and its allegedly military grade wifi, I dont feel I should be the one trying to circumvent a dodgy component, if that is indeed what it is...

This thread was more to try and ascertain if theres a genuine issue, and if it can be fixed without further exense. Besides that, I'm bloody skint now!

If you're having problems connecting to two completely different networks in two different houses I would humbly suggest the wifi card is goosed. Does anyone you know have a wireless dongle you could test with?

Haha, fair point. :o

I hope he returned it and is now sorted.
But seeing his ThePickle made me giggle as we just watched Sean Of The Dead again last night. :D

You also handily ignore another of my posts further down trying to help.

Using a cable wasn't a bad solution. Wireless is damn awful technology at the best of times so my solution was viable.

If you don't like what I say please don't feel the need to try and publicly poke at me, just send a PM and let me know and I'll be sure to delete it.
