Hey guys,

I purchased the 'Krypton Z68 650i Intel Core i7 2700K 3.50Ghz @ 4.60Ghz Overclocked Bundle' from ocuk a few weeks ago now and it's one of the best PC's i have ever owned.

But I have noticed a small side effect when powering up sometimes, when i press the power button you hear all the fans start up and the power light comes on for about 15 - 20 seconds with no display, then it will turn itself off which lasts about 3 -5 seconds, then turn itself on again and this time boot up correctly?? Now it hasn't done this all the time but it has done it a few times.

Im sure it's nothing to worry about but just wondering if anyone could explain why it does that?

Cheers guys. :D

I think that's quite common. I certainly had a PC that did that (although it didn't take 15-20 seconds to turn off again) and I've seen lots of other people mention it.

Some people theorise that it's the BIOS/EFI applying the overclocks.

Hey,

If this is similar to my Asus board then its doing the start up checks (CPU/RAM/GPU), then loading the BIOS. I doubt it's turning off for a bit, aren't the fans just slower? Check anyway.

Mine puts everything on while it checks, then dies down for a bit before booting up into the BIOS and beyond.

Hope that makes sense!

Cheers for reassuring me guys :D

I dont mind this double boot thing if thats what it's suppose to do but of course adds seconds to the overall boot up time. . . I wonder what the advantage of that is??

Just to confirm, its not just slower fans, the whole thing goes off compelety. . . I can hear the PSU do it's power off click :p

Anyway I might try and turn it off but the last time I went into the bios i wiped out all the ocuk settings and lost me overclock (had to call erm up to set them back again )

Cheers for your help :D

This doesn't sound normal to me, sometimes they will turn off and then back on but it should only take a few seconds not 15-20... to me it sounds like either of the EPU/TPU (there are dip switches on motherboard) are enabled or the motherboard is not picking up the RAM properly and the Mem OK! thing is kicking in to try to detect your type of memory.

Nope don't turn it off at the wall at all,

so should i switch these switched to disable then, will that create any problems with the OC if i do? How do I test its the RAM?

cheers

Is the bios remembering the time and date properly. Sounds like its setting up for the first time, I7 will do a weird reboot sometimes but a normal boot up should be the same as machines have always started

If its a new machine just email ocuk about it, sounds they already know what to do

If you want to have a go yourself make a note of all the bios settings and then have a look see if either the EPU/TPU switches are enabled, there should be a light on next to them if they are.

Just had a quick look and both switched seem to be off, no light next to them.

ocuk have given me something to try, they have suggested increasing the CPU voltage a little bit at a time until it gets to a more cleaner boot up. Ill see how that goes.
