New office PC needed - to rebuild or not to prebuild

Hey,

Need a new office PC setup for the old dear - typically just Web browsing, Spotify, word and at a push simple excel work. Will need a licence of Windows too.

Happy to build one but would it be cheaper to buy a prebuilt? Otherwise what components these days would suit for the minimal workload it would face? A chrome book would probably be decent enough but she deffo doesn't want a touchscreen small thing.

Advice would be most welcomed!

If you're not going SFF, then usually 4600G / 5600G or i3-10100 / i3-10105 are the best value, though you can get i3-12100 pre-builds somewhat well-priced (£150 cost for i3-13100 in a self-build is prohibitive).

Put my mum's project to one side for too long now so back on this one (thanks @Tetras for all the help on my build, and the above suggestion for mum's!)

Put this together with a little help from the OcUK builder:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £334.85 (includes delivery: £7.99)

As mentioned - just light office work and Web browsing mostly. Good enough as is? Any area to spend a bit more for decent gain?

While obviously a tidier option, I honestly can't notice the difference between a sata ssd and gen 4 nvme in day to day use...

Yeah, I agree, speed is likely irrelevant for this use case anyway, but I'm not worried about the speed, more that in NewMaxx's spreadsheet it (the green) is rated "garbage" tier with variable hardware, so my guess would be low-end everything (controller and flash), which might be why it has 3 year warranty. The SN570 is guaranteed to be TLC (according to their own datasheet) and even though it is DRAMless, I'd prefer a DRAMless NVME to a DRAMless SATA drive.

I believe the SATA WD Blue (SA510) has also been downgraded since the last gen, no longer has dram and TLC has been removed from the data sheet :o

Fantastic cheers for the suggestions people.

I'll make the adjustments and time for another build. Less exciting than my last but sure I'll have fun
