New official Map launched today from EA, Dice & Intel. Who says EA Don't have a heart

Soldiers! Download And Roll Out!
Through a collaborative effort Intel and EA DICE are rolling out a new Battlefield map for players to battle on. Highway Tampa is a vehicle focused map that offers a game experience similar to classic 1942 desert warfare. Explore this stretch of the Arabian Peninsula in your choice of vehicle and work with your team mates to conquer the map for your team. Download the beta, join in the servers, and drive, fly, and destroy your way to victory. Then drop by the EA forums and let us know what you think. Also keep your eyes to the future as this stretch of desert will see combat across two generations of Battlefield.

Played about 15 minutes on it, didn't get a chance to get in a tank, and playing infantry was just poxy

Yeah, because those are set in the future ahead BF2. Not

It certainly sounds like it will be coming to BF2142.

how many deserts do you find in the future! none, there all flooded from global warming, therefore the only possible other platforms for desert combat would be previous ones

There are desert type maps on BF2142.

Yes it is/will be ranked.

Global warming will mean some places like Spain etc become deserts. Look at Camp Gibraltar on BF2142, thats deserty

Not quote sure if the beta is ranked, but it will be once its official.

EDIT: It's running on ranked servers.

Not a clue, but there are a few problems with it as far as I can see on the TBF2 forums. BTW see my edit, the map is on ranked servers.
