New OSX Trojan

I imagine Sophos Labs will have something for you, particularly as they were the ones to discover and market the discovery ;)

One of its capabilities is to pop up fake administrator password request windows as a phishing attempt

Tip: Don't give admin access to applications you don't trust, or haven't requested.

Non issue IMO.

It will be a shame when viruses start to become more common on the mac platform. I hate the fact that pc antivirus steals my system resources.

What's funny is the Sophos EULA that basically states you give Sophos free reign on your data... so touted as free it's actually a data trojan itself!

1. Don't give administrator passwords to requesting apps
2. Use a firewall to block apps form connecting out.
3. Don't install pirated software (I'm waiting for the first instance to appear through the Mac Store and the fallout!).

I've seen videos on YouTube showing that even when Sophos quarantines and 'blocks' software the offending file remains on the system and can be copied, accessed and moved around at will. It simply copies it to quarantine rather than actually isolating the offending file. Pretty fail for an antivirus, no?

I'm running my free copy of Kaspersky 2011 for Mac I get from Barclays, still a bit paranoid and I tend to send files to windows machines.

As EVH says, it's a non-issue. Smart computer use will prevent problems. Regardless of the OS. The only way I can see this being a problem is it turning up in torrents. In which case, stop stealing **** you cheap sods :p
