I'm in the market for a new pair of headphones to use while I'm walking around. I don't get on well with IEMs so would prefer a less bulky over-ear set if there's a decent one. I'm looking at around £100 but can go a bit higher if it's really worth it.

I got a pair of bluetooth ones that would be great if they fit properly but I can hear the sound change every time I move my head. :(

Do you want in-line controls and/or detachable cord?
What types of music do you listen to? Is heavy bass important?
There are shed loads of reviews on headphones online.
The majority of people I see on my commute have on-ears as opposed to over-ears, likely due to the bulk and folding/storage of most of these type.

I've just bought a pair of over-ear BT headphones and got all my info from just crawling through a tonne of reviews.
It's very much personal preference, maybe go in to stores and try them if possible.

Thanks for the reply, I decided on Sennheiser Urbanites in the end. Detachable cord, folding, inline controls that will never be used and they're easy to drive at 18ohms. Reviews say they're a tad bassy without sacrificing other frequencies which will suit my music, though I'm not a basshead.

I wasn't aware just how home-oriented most over-ears are but all that I looked at were pretty big and I'm a small guy so it wouldn't work.

From a quick search it sounds like the bass doesn't reach far enough but they make vocals shine. Swings and roundabouts really but they sound quite different to the urbanites so I might pick a pair of those up too and compare them. I'm sending the bluetooth ones I got back as they're too big and loose but the sound is ok for £40.

M1s are quite highly regarded. If cabled isnt an issue then the Grado line up has to be worth a look at... Brilliant sound signatures.

Was about to get a new pair of IEMs costing £60 but these Philips do look decent for the money.
So, Sony MDR-EX650 or the Philips, both £60?

Stuff it, could get both I suppose!

The Urbanites are here and it has to be said they are very nice indeed. They go a lot deeper in the bass department than my 598s but they seem to be bassy less often. They 598s always seemed to me like they added a slight amount of bass where it really wasn't needed but these are nicely punchy. Insanely comfortable for someone that was expecting to feel like I was punched in the ear after 10 minutes too, I've never used on-ears before so wasn't sure what to expect.

The Urbanites do look good from reviews and I'm trying not to fork out an extra £70 or so for them! It appears they would suit my needs too. Cheapest I've seen after a quick search was £127, did you get them any cheaper? I'd be wanting the Android compatible version.

No I just forked over the £140-odd on the forest but if you can get them at that price I'd do it. After listening to them for a couple of days they sound even better. :)

Edit: I don't know why an angled connector is such a big deal with headphone fans but to me it's just a pain in the arse. Every time I put my phone in my pocket the damn thing gets caught. Two days and it's annoying already, I'm sure Sennheiser are just trolling with their various unwieldy cables.

I don't like the angled connectors either and they don't fit my phone case! I'd have to buy a short extension cable, they're only a few quid I suppose!

Cheers
