I'm off to buy a new Conroe based system within the next week from OcUK and im looking at taking advantage of the clocking speeds given by the e4300 + the BSEL MOD for making it boot at 1066FSB.

What im wanting to confirm is...

Is it worth me spending £200+ on some SLi Ready 1066FSB Ram? or should i go for a cheaper set of 800FSB ram??

Im looking at pushing the e4300 as far as i can on Air which should be around the 2.8 / 3ghz mark from what i've seen.

What im looking at getting at the moe is the following Ram

But would it really be worth it with the e4300, or should i go for something like

Cheers

Just get the PC6400, it will be enough for you to oc to 3.6Ghz without pushing the RAM.

Rather than doing a mod why not just increase the FSB to 266Mhz in BIOS (1066Mhz effective)??

yeah, thats what i was going to do at first - i just have this gut feeling that i should spend a few more £££'s and make sure the system is a bit more future proof.

Think im going to go with

EVGA nForce 680i
OCZ 2GBPC2-6400
Intel Core 2 DUO E4300
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7

I mean in a real world environment what advantages would the extra 2mb cache give me?

Only using this for gaming really

DDR3 and new techs like phase change RAM mean that future proofing with DDR2 past next year is silly.

If you're buying to invest it might make sense as RAM is cheap right now... However I can think of better investments.

I need to upgrade, just sold laptop in the aim of upgrading to a Conroe and the Mrs is killing me as she cant play PartyPoker (she was only one to use the laptop)

She's getting my old pc (in sig) while i move to the conroe.

So is it safe saying that i'll be more than fine with the PC6400 Ram, guess it wont really.

Just will be looking at pushing this e4300 as far as i can on Air

I would consider spending less on the mobo tbh, maybe go for the cheaper 650 if you are planning to sli.

Get ballistix pc5300 £130 ish per 2 gig
ocz gold pc 8800 £160 ish per 2 gig
both will do 1200 mhz easy
