Pretty simple, I'll just tell you a simple easy way to get 3Ghz. Go in your BIOS:
1)Set your multiplier to x9
2) Set your FSB to 333
3) Set your PCI-E to 100MHz exactly
3) If your using 800Mhz memory I'm assuming, set your memory multplier to 2.4 (2.4 * 333 = 800Mhz)
4) For now leave memory timings on auto
5) Set proper voltage for your memory, whatever it's spec'd at.
6) I personally have my E2180 @ 3Ghz and my Vcore is 1.406V, yours might be lower or higher but for now set it at 1.4V so for the most part we'll at least get into windows.

7) Disable C1E and EIST, might be under Advanced BIOS options. Basicly they are power saving features that can mess with your OC and cause instability.

8)Since you mentioned you arent using stock cooling you probbobly wont have to disable the auto fan option under the power settings of your BIOS. But still disable it anyways incase you have a smart fan.

Now you should be able to boot into windows. Now go get yourself prime95 and speedfan/coretemp. Open up either speedfan or coretemp (I use coretemp) and now open up prime 95. When it prompts you to pick a test choose the top one, small FFT's. Hit OK. You should see your core's tempratures rise under coretemp/speedfan. Stick around for the next 10 minutes so that your heatsink will be fully warmed up to about its max. As long as your temps dont go above 65C let it run for 6-8 hours. If it throws back errors, measure the time it took for the error to occur. If it was a few hours increase your Vcore by 1 notch and redo. Until you can go about 8 hours without an error. Also if NO errors occur after 8 hours, try REDUCING your Vcore until you produce an error, then increase that voltage that errored by a notch. This way you get the lowest stable voltage for the best tempratures.

i found this guide on the internet and follwed it.It has worked on my system well and is stable ive had prime 95 running for around 4 hours withoutany errors and seems to be very stable with max temps only hittting 55° .Ive read a fair bit about overclocking and this is my first time overclocking my system.
my specs are

CPU:E2180
PSU:Corsair HX Series 520W
RAM:Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit
Case: Antec 900
Mobo: Abit IP35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
CPU coolerArctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775)
GPU:4850HD

Im currently at 3GHZ and wondering if it is worth pushing for any more im pretty sure i have the cooling capacity for it
My vcore is only @ 1.33v not 1.4 as stated in the guide.
If i try to go for a larger overclock will i need to incerase the voltage arcross the ram as this has been left at default at the moment
Also whats is the benefit of using a 9* multiplyer with larger fsb as opposes to using 10* multiplyer with a smaller one? and use a differnt memory multiplyer? and do i have to make the multiplcation of the memory add up to 800 Mhz?

the advantage of a higher FSB using smaller multiplier is that the rest of your system will run marginally faster due to the faster FSB, though imo its only really for benchmarking, it makes little real world difference
Re the RAM you should not exceed the 800MHz rated speed, as your RAM is more likely to fail OCing than your CPU, and your CPU is where you'll see most difference in speed anyway. Set the voltage to whatever your RAMs rated voltage is (prob on sticker on side or look up on web) If you want to push your CPU as far as you can go then a good idea is to choose a 1:1 ratio whilst youre OCing, then when you reach as high as your CPU can go you can go back in and select the multiplier that brings you upto 800MHz, you could try higher multipliers and see if you can OC your RAM too at this point
 
i tried pushing the multiplyer to 10 time so i would ge a 3.3ghz overclock but it didnt seem to like it?
I also incread the v core from 1.34 to 1.36v but still didnt work and the ram from 1.8-1.9v?
I looked for the ram rating i think its 1.9-2.2 does this sound about right?
how cna i get it higher i donnie want to break it?
 
Another question once i overclock to much and the screen wont load what is the fastest way to get the computer to reset itself to default clock speed?i just usually turn the power off and reboot a few time but some times it takes ages?
