Hi,
I am putting together a new PC and have a list of parts. I don’t know how good this list is or if everything is compatible.

Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail

Got:
Asus Z97 Pro Wifi-AC Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Kingston Technology XMP Beast Series (2*8) 16GB 2400MHz DDR3
Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X OC 4096MB
Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 ATX High Airflow Cube Performance Windowed Computer Case– Black
Corsair Hydro Series H105 240mm Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
EVGA SuperNOVA 850w G2 Gold Power Supply

I would like to keep the price at about £1000 or less. I have an SSD and OS and display so don’t need them.
Thanks.

You could probably do better for the money. The case is a bit of a weak one for the budget. Also that H105 won't fit anyway. Give me a few mins to spec something.

Is this just a gaming rig ?

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus Radeon R9 290 DirectCU II OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card - Red £329.99
1 x Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £259.99
1 x Kingston HyperX 16GB (2x8GB) PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black/Red (HX24C11BRK2/16-OC) £119.99
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 3 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £109.99
1 x SuperFlower Leadex GOLD 650W Fully Modular "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £79.99
1 x Corsair Carbide 330R Silent Mid Tower Case - Black (CC-9011024-WW) £69.95
1 x Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler £29.99
Total : £1,014.89 (includes shipping : £12.50).

The Graphics card and Motherboard both come with a free headset while stocks last, so if you sell them on it will bring you under the £1000.

Superflower psu is fully modular.

Corsair 330R should be nice and quiet whilst you are working, but has good airflow for when you are gaming.

The upcoming cpu's will run cooler than current haswell chips. The matterhorn is a very good budget cooler.

I didn't include a mechanical hard drive or optical drive as your original spec didn't have them listed.

Thank for that.
For the case I just need one that will work with a H105/H110 as the room I am in can get hot and humid so good cooling is important. Will a Corsair 330R be ok for the cooler? I chose the Asus Z97 Pro Wifi-AC as it has good reviews and Wi-Fi built in and I need Wi-Fi. I could add a pcie Wi-Fi add-on card but it just seemed easier to have it included.

Didn't come up with that different a basket to Lee's, but here it is anyway:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus Radeon R9 290 DirectCU II OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card - Red £329.99
1 x Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £269.99
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £139.99
1 x Seasonic M12II EVO Edition 750W '80 Plus Bronze' Fully Modular Power Supply £73.99
1 x Noctua NH-D14 Dual Radiator CPU Cooler £65.99
1 x Kingston HyperX 8GB (2x4GB) PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black/Red (HX21C11BRK2/8-OC) £61.99
1 x Corsair Graphite Series 230T Compact Mid Tower Case (CC-9011036-WW) £57.95
Total : £1,014.89 (includes shipping : £12.50).

Same GPU, so free headset with it. Just the one in this basket, not two.

Free 8GB RAM with motherboard, to make it 16GB.

Retail CPU instead of OEM as it's already expensive anyway, may as well pay the extra £10 for two more years of warranty, even if CPU failures are rare (only happened to me once). If the difference was £20 or more, then I'd probably consider the OEM.

Quality CPU cooler. As good as a H100i. Checked the dimensions for it and the case, and they should fit according to the official figures, but if anyone knows it doesn't, please warn. If you go for a windowed case, you'd probably want something that matches the black/red theme better.

Hi
I ended up buying a case, PSU and CPU cooler last night. I got a case I liked but was not going to get until I watch a YouTube review.
I got:
Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 ATX High Airflow Cube Performance Windowed Computer Case– Black
Corsair Hydro Series H105 240mm Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
EVGA SuperNOVA 850w G2 Gold Power Supply
I was going to get a 650W PSU but I might add a second GPU at a later date so I went for the 850W instead. I have found a Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X 4096MB for £284 so I think I will be getting one of them and a Asus Z97 Pro Wi-Fi-AC Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard unless anyone knows of any issues with them.
Thanks.

Those 540s are very nice cases ..great air flow too , quite wide though...but a very nice choice ....and nice price on that Tri-X too :)...mine sits around 39c-40c-ish , and doesn't get too hot when gaming either , i have the card's fan speed set to about 45% as it's been a bit warm the last few days

Hi foster grant,
Yes the Tri-X price is good, I did not put an order in as it seemed to good and through there may be something wrong with them. I have looked at some reviews and they all say they are good and it’s a good website to buy from so I will get one.

That all looks good to me. You could look at the Powerline Adapters as an alternative to wireless, although if you get the Asus board I would see how you go on with that first.

I had a Belkin extended range wireless card that couldn't hold a signal, so it kind of put me off wireless a bit :D

These are what I mean should you need one.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Netgear XAVB5201 Nano AV 500 HomePlug Adapter Starter Kit £32.99
Total : £35.96 (includes shipping : £2.48).

I use Wi-Fi now on my laptop and it’s been very good so hopefully it will be ok. I will give the power line network stuff a try if I have problems.

I am guessing you didn't stick to your £1000 budget then :D

Don't forget your free postage as well, if you are mainland uk :)
