So I just build my new pc and there's no ports for my monitors cable to go into my gpu so I had to buy one but it's capped me at 60hz.

What do I need to do to get my monitor back to 120hz

Monitor - BenQ XL2410T
GPU Asus rog-strix rtx 2080 ti

What cable did you buy? Ideally it should be a displayport cable and once connected you will need to adjust the refresh in windows display settings too.

I'll be honest I don't know what it was called but if someone could send me the way of the correct one it would be great. I've tried switching my hz everywhere, only way to get 120hz is dropping down to 800/600 res

That monitor is getting on a bit (2011) and doesn't have display port. 'Should' be able to do it over HDMI. Have you reinstalled your display driver? I'd use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) first.

That is a monster card for that resolution and probably that refresh rate. Seeing as you can afford that card, can stretch yourself to a higher resolution >2560x1440 at 144hz (new monitor?).

Depending on the age of the rest of your rig, you could be holding that gfx card back too. Tell us about your system.

I can swap my monitor for my brothers monitor which has display ports if that helps but what is the cable I need for that as his comes with the dvi cable as well

BenQ XL2420T is his monitor has two display ports
