Yes, it's another one of those threads!

My 6 yeard old dell has finally died on me, and I have saved up some money for a new rig for gaming and music. I only need a tower and components, as I have a new monitor.

I have spent a while figuring out what to get and was curious to see what people thought / had any ideas.

Intel E8400 3.00Ghz
Asus P5Q Pro
8GB Corsair XMS2 1066Mhz DDR2 RAM
ASUS GTX 275
Creative X-Fi Titanium
WD 640GB SATAII 7,200 32MB cache
Antec 300
Coolermaster Silent Pro 700w
Sony DVD-RW

Not sure which CPU cooler to go for, as I plan to overclock the E8400 to 4.0Ghz.

Any ideas welcome!

how much does that all come to so we know on what to improve on etc as if you want to keep that cpu and mainboard we could find better options if we know how much you have left to spend

That all comes to about £780 excluding the cooling. I don't mind spending a little more, perhaps another £100. I was thinking about waiting a bit and getting an i7 system as the price has come down a lot. But then theres DX11, so I've got to buy at some point! Many thanks!

I wouldnt buy intels socket 775 now tbh, not for a whole new system, upgrades to an existing system fair enough, but for new system either squeeze in i7 or go the AM3 route, give me a min ill do a spec for you

Ok then i7 first, this is budget i7, cheap mobo

and AM3 option, this is top end AM3, very good mobo, used the 4890 over the 275 as this mobo supports xfire not SLI, theres no real need for 8 gig of RAM, if you wanted you could spend a bit more and get a modular PSU, but these are excellent quality
