New PC - any thoughts before I pull the trigger?

Hi,

See the below pic for the specs:

I've a EVGA GTX 580 to fit in there already. The extra fan is for the CPU to keep it quiet.

Any thoughts before I pull the trigger?

(unfortunately the case is not in stock

)

It will be my new "main PC", i.e. for everything. I'm planning to play Battlefield 2 (and 3 when it's released) and to run Linux and Windows 7 on it, with all my Steam games and such. The last GPU I had was a 8600M GT 256MB DDR2 so I haven't really kept up with new games.

GPU should be fine to run those games

only thing i would maybe change is the PSU if you have money to play around with?

Sounds good - should be a really nice step-up.

Have you considered using an i5 2500K CPU instead (this review shows how it compares to a i7 2600K) and using the money saved towards an SSD?

I think I'll keep the CPU

I have an old 160GB Intel G2 SSD in my laptop that I'll use for this PC.

Hm, any reason why? http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/899 seems to give it a good review. Plus it's modular, not too expensive and anything higher than 650W and I'll probably not hit the higher efficiency..

Please correct me if I'm wrong

BTW does anyone know how OCUK works when you order something that's not in stock? Do they ship all the parts but the one not in stock, or can you wait?

If you wait (but have placed the order) and if prices drop - do you still pay full price?

+1 on this question. Mobo I want to order is out, but OCUK have it for PreOrder only. What happens in that case?

order separately, I didn't and when the item came into stock, they'd sold through on something else instead of holding it for me even though I'd paid!!

Right, so order all parts that are in stock, then put a separate order on the out of stock items.

Paying more for shipping...

order it all together, the whole lot either comes when the remaining items are in stock, or the out of stock items are sent later at no extra cost.

Im just for future proofing, your PSU will be fine on that

but i like to build my system and make it last so if i want to add another card or something else i know my system supports it, but tbh it looks like a good system

Thanks, so I'll order it all together. Is there a better CPU cooler for around the same price? (or just a tiny bit more)

Do I need to get thermal grease seperately? Anything else I've forgotten?

No, except I didn't order the monitor because of not enough funds on the VISA, will have to order that later in a few days. Hopefully everything will go smooth...
