Hi

I got a new *Competitor PC!* a month ago, spec below.

Basic Specification:

Fractal Design R3 Case in Black

Intel Core i5 2500K Overclocked to 4.2GHz

Asus P8P67 Motherboard with Crossfire, Bluetooth, USB 3.0 and Firewire (passively cooled)
Gainward GeForce GTX 570 "Phantom" 1.3GB Ultra Low Noise edition video card (6 heatpipes, 44 fins)
8GB Corsair Memory (2 x 4GB)
Corsair Force 120GB Solid State Drive (silent)
1TB Samsung F3 (the quietest 7200rpm 1TB drive on the market)
Scythe Quiet Drive 3.5 Internal HDD Silencer (silences HDD access noise without increasing temps)
Samsung Blu ray (the quietest blu ray player on the market)
680W BeQuiet Straight power Cable Managed PSU (semi active, 12dBa)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM

It was all fine for the first couple of weeks but then I got a BSOD. I can't remember what I was doing but it was nothing special. A week later another, again not doing anything special. A few days ago, another while I was away from the computer and yesterday when I came back to the PC after a while the screensaver and the whole system had frozen solid.

It seems OK the rest of the time and I have had it on 24/7 since I installed it but surely that is cause for concern? I ran Memtest86+ last night to see if there was an issue with one of the RAM modules but after 12 cycles there were no errors detected.

Now if I had to guess I'd point the blame squarely at the SSD boot drive purely from the number of problems I've heard mentioned in passing. I took a risk when I went for a system with an SSD and I'm starting to think it was a bad idea.

So what I'm posting here for really is advice as to whether I should do some tests myself or just get in touch with *Competitor!* and get them to sort it. Also wondering whether to request a refund on the SSD and just get the O/S installed on a regular hard drive. If I should run tests then which ones and links please!

So four BSsOD is definately serious enough to send it back? I just thought it might be quicker to diagnose it myself. I was going to send an email tonight anyway.

Sorry for mentioning competitors.

If you buy a new car from Ford and later in the week the engine dies, what do you do? ask a forum or take it back because its new and has a warranty?

Did you pay using a credit card?

I think I might try to take a look at the problem and see if it's something simple before going back to the dealers. I can frankly do without the hassle of sending it back and being without it for god knows how long. Obviously your advice is to return it. Thanks.

Debit card. Like I said, I haven't contacted them yet. I will tonight and my guess is that they will ask me to return it.

BSOD's should not be happening on a new PC. If it doesn't work properly it's their problem to sort out, not yours. That's one of the main reasons you'd buy a pre-built system surely?

Yeah I know I just really can do without the hassle. I woke up to another BSOD this morning. :( I took a photo of the screen this time. Is there any part of it I should note down and tell the company?

The error code(s) should be noted and googled to find out if it relates to anything specific. Also to see if it's the same error(s) everytime. It's located at the bottom line of the blue screen under "technical information:"
