Hi

Looking at building a new PC after Xmas. Needs to run all modern games smoothly and perfectly including Oculus.
Would like to keep the i7 and 1080 but any other suggestions/improvements/compatibility issues, feel free to help me out as i'm new to this.
I don't have any plans on overclocking (as have no idea about it)

Also a good monitor (27"-32") would be good too (around £500 max)

here is what i've come up with so:

Below is your existing basket:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £2,141.78 (includes shipping: £0.00)

Have slightly tweaked the build:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £2,124.84 (includes shipping: £0.00)

  • More spacious case with better water cooling compatability and much better airflow; meaning less need for additional case fans.
  • Better AIO CPU cooler - larger radiator and fans for stronger cooling performance.
  • Faster RAM - higher frequency and lower latency for additional performance.

You could save even more by going with an OEM i7-8700k and cheaper 3000/3200mhz RAM.

Regardless of which case , when your having an i7 K coffee and 1080 ti cards, invest in the extra front fan as if your sticking the AIO on top you'll be running negative pressure and there's a lot of unfiltered gaps in that case and 90% of others with will draw in dust .
280 AIO is worth it as again the i7 coffee overclocked gets hot

If you like the Phanteks, has RGB that plugs into the Aorus board - bit more, but white inside or RGB might not be your thing

As mentioned above , worth keep 8 Pack ram , specially if you like to tweak your PC. Running low CL or pushing 3600hz plus :)

I have no idea about overclocking as never done it before, tbh does it need to be overclocked?

as for the abbreviations, i have no clue what your talking about xD ( AIO, RGB etc )

not too worried about the cost tbh, just want to run all games and VR on best settings i can without too much noise from the pc itself and ofc without it getting super hot. (Im sorry i dont really know much about this)

That case you linked on your post orbitalwalsh looks great so happy with that one.

Where would i mount the rad etc and where would the fans fit? do you get fans with the water cooler?

thanks again in advance

With Intel's K chips , your paying a lot of money to overclock and push he chip to get that extra performance and as much out of your hard earnt cash .
Worth looking at YouTube , here and Google for tutorials .
If you want to save a lot of cash and not overclock or not bothered about it , i5 8400 which is a good £150 saving or i7 8700 non K which can be found for £320 odd .

AIO = closed water loops as yourself and south has posted .
RGB= red green blue lighting .

The fans on the Phanteks case are.meant to be same dB as bequiet Pure 600, so in theory should be able to sit near it with 100% speed and really not hear it .

I think the fans on the Corsair AIO can be quite loud at full whack, but always worth setting up your own fan profile so doesn't get to noisy or poor cooling

As for AIO, down to personal preferences and look or restrictions.
If just watercooling the CPU, I like it at the top due to GPU speed is greatly effected by temps so supplying it with the coolest possible is what I prefer , if it's all being water cooled then normally at the front getting the coldest air possible .

Ok thats good to know,
yea i have little knowledge on overclocking, if i was to just get the non K chip, would it still perform really well gaming and VR etc? Id like to keep the i7 over an i5 tbh

thanks

@mechynick
I7 8700 non K is a damn good chip, but problem is most places sell it close to K version so might as well get the K and leave unclocked .
Currently sale on today for £350 which is great
Normally £410 odd and non K can be had for £312 odd .
Grab the deal today if anything else

i don't mind if it costs a little more tbh, i'm not buying till new year anyway.
another important question, are all the parts i've chosen compatible and fit together etc?

can you recommend a good monitor to go with?

thanks

I just click on. The links and add them to basket haha .

CPU will go up a bit and you can get the Aorus gtx 1080 Ti for £712 ;) quick Google

Aorus GTX and the ASRock mobo.
will get the bigger cooler.
would it make a difference with it being mounted in the front?

CPU temp should be lower as well as water temp due to taking in room ambient temps to cool it down, will lead to a higher case temp for the GPU card . Pros and cons to having it on the intake or exhaust / up top .
I like it up up, when gaming chips doesn't get as hot as when stressing and rather have the coolest air available to the GPU due to Pascal boost speeds dropping for every 5c of heat the core reaches . Also temps aren't affect to much with it drawing warm air from the case out, most Air coolers do this anyways .

Just depends on the person, the build and asthetics
