Hi folks,
First post here...first PC build in 10 years!!

Up until Saturday morning I was using an MSI Gaming Laptop that ran a 970m and Intel i7 - i was due an upgrade and now that its died i have been looking at options.

My main use case will be for gaming - Historically I have ran a triple monitor (1080 per screen) setup and still have those screens mounted so would like to use them again for racing games such as iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione and for Flight Simulator. I know i will be pushing a substantial amount of pixels across all 3 screens so was looking at the following setup:

  • 7900XTX to save some cash over buying Nvdia given im not fussed about Ray Tracing.
  • Ryzen 7 7800x3d
  • Corsair Vengeance EXPO 32GB (2X16GB) DDR5 PC5-48000C36 6000MHz Dual Channel Kit
  • 850w Corsair PSU - bought it 5 years ago and never used and been sat in loft
  • MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk (i like the audio output options with options for my existing audio equipment over other boards at this price point - unless im missing something good)

And thats where i have got too. Reading around, it seems i will need some sort of all in one water cooling solution for the CPU - and this will facilitate needing a case that can accomodate both air and water cooling. I was looking at the Fractal Torent but worried how that would work with an AIO CPU cooler.

Could anybody recommend a case and cooler for the CPU? My main considerations for case is it needs to support a minimum of 2 SSDs - mid tower i guess is okay. I am so lost, having spent a day seemingly going round in circles, watching Gamers Nexus andHardware Unboxed videos and reading around. Budget is around 2k, could probably stretch a little more.

Thanks in advance
Gray

The cheapest cooler I'd recommend is this and it makes case choice simple.

With AIOs and case compatibility, you need to consider:
1. The place to mount (e.g. roof, side, front) and if this has implications for your fans, or other hardware (they'll usually say in the manufacturer's description if there are issues).
2. The radiator compatibility for the mount. Most cases support 240mm, 280mm, 360mm or 420mm. 280mm coolers often have 140mm fans, which might make them thicker.
3. The thickness of the radiator and fans together and if this has compatibility issues with anything else, e.g. case, motherboard, drive bays. The case manufacturer will usually include any size restrictions in the case spec

Cheaper case I use in my specs:
- Phanteks G300A, £65. 3 120mm RGB fans pre-installed. 240mm roof mount. 360mm front mount.

Higher-end:
- Phanteks P600S, £150, 3 140mm fans pre-installed. 280mm or 360mm roof mount.

Hi Tetras, thanks for coming back to me and recommendations..I do like the idea of pairing the air cooler you linked along with the Fractile Torent - do you think ir cooling be suitable for the 7800x3D?

Thanks
