Hi all,
I just upgraded to
Asus ROG Strix Z490-E
Intel I9 10850K CPU
WD_Black SN750 2TB NVMe SSD
Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO Black 32GB 3200 Mhz DDR 4 Dual Channel Memory
Those were my new parts and now these are my old parts...
Corsair AX 860i PSU
MSI GTX1080ti Gaming X
So after reinstalling windows 10 Home Version 20H2 i was getting random crashes where both my screens would just go a blank grey colour (one darker than the other) with no error messages and i would have to hit restart button to get back into windows. I did all the latest chipset, graphics and bios versions but made no difference. I also was having random internet drop outs for about 5 seconds now and then so after many hours of searching forums i saw many people having same sort of thing with these motherboards ( some say it was to do with the XMP profiles dont work).
So ive sent the motherboard back and got the Asus ROG Maximus XII (wi-fi) and im now up and running with fresh install of windows again with all the latest chipset, graphics and bios versions and i dont get the internet drop outs now but i still get the same random crashes with same blank grey screens with no errors.
in the bios i set the option to run intel settings not overclock and set to xmp 1 profile.
I can game all day with no problems and then the next day it can crash but not when im in game more when i come out of the game and maybe go on internet or do something that is not power hungry.
CPU temps are around 30c on 27c-30c on idle and around 60c-70c in game.
ive also tried on the Asus ROG strix z490e motherboard putting my older ram which was 16gb pc3200 ddr4 back in but i got the same problem so i have not tried putting the old ram in this new Maximus motherboard so im now wondering is this a problem with my new Hard drive or CPU or is my graphics card which was fine in my old system now a problem due to it being moved after so long.
It does sound like ASUS are having some trouble with the new z490 motherboards and maybe the xmp profiles but im no expert and just reading things on forums.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT THANKS.

Random crashes are a pain to diagnose.

You could try running the memorry at stock settings not using xmp profile just to see if crashes occur.

You could also try running memtest to check for errors.

i do have my 2 older sticks of ddr4 pc3200 16gb which i did try in my 1st mobo and it made no difference so i didnt bother in this one.
Could try to update the firmware on you western digital sn if available but I'm grasping at straws.

I would still run some tests on memorry but i would expect if to show up more frequently if there was errors.

Any info in windows event logs ?

Im getting lots of yellow triangle warning signs for ESENT under the source and 642 under Event ID. Also an error for Application hang GameBar.exe Another error for Application hang for ArmourySwAgent.exe.
I just checked in my settings i have xbox game bar turned off so not sure why im getting that error.
Ive also downloaded the asus armoury uninstaller tool and removed it.
Also when you said about setting ram to default not xmp 1 did you mean set it to auto in the bios or manual and type in all the speeds and timings ?
