I have a budget of £1800 to build a new computer. Its been five years since I built my last computer so I am quite rusty when it comes to what I actually need.

Below are the parts I have selected, can anyone advice which parts could be changed for different ones bearing in mind that the computer will be used primarily for 3D rendering (3ds Max) and gaming.

I'd like the cost to be slightly less so I can get a decent 22" monitor and keyboard ect...
Also, would I need a sound card to hook up to my speakers (Optical).

Slik core i7 bundle at 4.2ghz overclocked (Asus Rampage III, i7 930, 6gb corsair XMS memory, Prolimatech Megahalems Cooler, 120mm fan)

and the nvidia graphics card will allow the use of CUDA acceleration in apps that can take advantage of the massive computational power of a graphics card, and still be a gaming powerhouse.

also you might want a harddrive to store stuff on.

and do you need such a large/expensive case, its not the best for aircooling (water cooling its almost untouchable)

Thanks for the advice. If I were to buy these parts, would they all be compatible with each other?
Also, What monitors would you recommend as I need two side by side.

Thanks,
STRBramley

Thanks for all the reply's.
How about the build below?

Would this case be big enough to fit everything in?

I'd prefer a case that doesn't have any windows or LED lighting.

Thanks,
Hixxey

Perfect, thanks.

This is my basket as it stands.

Any other suggestions are welcomed.
Also, I have the Logitech Z5500's but they are being used by a few other devices so what desktop speakers would you recommend?

Thanks,
Hixxey

You gonna be ok to overclock the CPU yourself? If not, it's worth consider paying extra for the overclocked bundle options?

Also, I wouldn't recommend that budget CPU cooler for a i7 Quad (not saying it's crap...but you would want a better one for overclocking a i7)...look for a beefier CPU cooler instead.

Ok thanks, What CPU Cooler would you recommend for this system?

what about this ?

build

That would go over my £1800 budget as I need two monitors and wouldn't I need more parts if I were to get a water cooling fan?

Anyway, this is my latest build.

I swapped the RAM for Corsair and the Fan for a better one.
If anyone can see anything wrong with this build let me know.

So I updated the build with the 21.5" Benq's which brings the system under budget.
Anyone have any idea of what I could upgrade or add to give a little bit more performance?

Ok thanks, I think I'll goo for that option then. Anyone have any links to performance comparisons between the 1x480 and the 2x470?

EDIT: Does the 2xGTX 470's mean it will be in SLi?
Also, does having two GPU's mean that you can theoretically have four monitors connected?

sweet you'll have to do a build log when you've got the parts

Yeah I will do.
I've decided against getting the mouse and speakers as I have a mouse and I can just get a splitter for my Z5500's so that's saving over £100 for something aimed more towards performance.
