ok i have 1k to spend on a pc.

I currently have a radeon 7950(switch to 7970 shaders) so basically a 7970.
8gb vengance lowprofile corsair ram.(1600mhz)
i5 2500 3.3ghz cpu.(can be overclocked to atleast 3.5ghz).
550 watt modular (80+ bronze) power supply (antec).

What i think i want:

a Nvidia graphics card.

16gb (2x8gb or 4x4gb) ram at 2133Mhz or 8gb(2x4) at 2300Mhz+

a Mobo best suited for a seperate gpu, ive forgot it its h or p.(great soundcard inbuilt) and just great synthesis with the gpu that fits with it. (overclocking ability too).

a SD drive 100gb+ , would like 256gb tbh.

And a i5 ivybridge cpu.

Im going to need a larger PSU for the new nvidia card so id prefer a safe wattage. something like 700watts. has to be modular.

i do want a new screen to show off the graphics card . so like a great resolution for games etc. but i dont know. it doesnt need to be put in the recommendations.

a 3570K is marginally faster than a 2500. Can't you get more out of your CPU?

What motherboard do you have? I'd probably just get a xfire motherboard and another 7950 and a bigger PSU.

ive got a low end gigabyte mobo not even gen3. and ur probably right about the cpu not worth spending another 170 on a cpu thats pretty much like the one i have.

Why do you want to move from a 7950/7970 to a GTX 670 (the only one in your budget really). It is an upgrade but not a huge one, atall

You PSU should be able to handle a GTX 670.

What monitor have you got already?

No need for faster RAM.

doomed.... i dont see how a gtx680 is not in the 1k budget.

say thats around 400... a £150 ssd, a £120 mobo,£100 psu. keep the i5 sandy bridge 3.6 ghz.

thats well under budget... and the nvidia 580 is probably what i would want.

yeh but i bought my other 6950(switch to 6970 shaders) from a 2nd hand site for £180 with its own artic cooler x3 fan connected to it rather than the standard heatsink cover and fan.

i would like another of the same card... jsut i really feel my pc is playing up... even in borderlands 2 my screen goes black for like 10 seconds when the sound still plays... and it sometimes goes sooo laggy and the only way to get it back to normal fps is by going to the games graphic options and just changing them around abit. i can make the graphics the highest and worse as long as i change it in sum way it will work again for another 50 mins...

So it's a 6950, not 7950? Let's be clear here, because there's a big difference.

If you want a re-build, then sure, 670, 3570K, sell your old junk. IMO, I'd skip SLI / XFire, you should not really need that with 1080p.

7950 with a switch to change the shaders to a 7970 lol.. sorry i always thought a 7970 was the same as a gtx670.

I just dont understand how a 6970 lags with witcher2 on max setting and borderlands 2 max settings but with bf3 ultra settings it plays fine.

i updated my bios yesterday, it was only like 5 months old the previous driver... but that stangly has fixed the borderlands and witcher problem lol.

so now it changes my question. what would you guys buy to add on/upgrade the pc. with a 1k budget.

So pc atm -

I5 2500k - 3.6 ghz
Radeon 7950(7970 switch) 2gb gpu
23" Asus ve427 ?? i think, didnt bother looking.
corsair sp2500 speakers
gigabyte z68A-D3-B3
8gb 1600Mhz corsair vengeance ram
64gb samsung sd drive
120gb seagate barracuse(well old lol) the only thing bringing my windows index score down lol.
550watt psu 80 bronze modular.
