Hi there
need some help/questions about my new build (list below).
I'm not new to pc building, however my last build was 2013, and other than a couple of upgrades to it my current PC is i5-4670 - Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H - 8GB DDR3 Corsair - Noctua NH-U12S - 512GB 850pro - Asus 1070GTX 8GB - Corsair Obsidian 750D case - LG32GP850 (2460x1440)
Gaming wise even tho im in my 50s I play game like no mans sky, resident evil games, adventure games (myst riven etc), fallout 76, GTA5 and FPS.

Note, there isnt a gpu listed as yet, I planned on getting the asus 5070 12gb, looking on YT they say 12gb isnt enough, I've also read, if true the 5070 super with 18gb will be out around OCT , so will just wait for that.

I do plan on reusing the case, monitor, gpu (for now) and if i can the OS (if there is a way to do it)

Memory Question
You will see two listed 32gb or 48gb. what the best to future proof for a few years, will 32gb be fine ? is 48gb overkill?
also don't fully understand timings, so is CL30 what I should get ?

OS Question
Current OS is win10pro, how I got to that was, bought win8pro retail, then upgrade to win8.1pro, then got the free upgrade to win10pro, due to current pc being so old, can't get free upgrade to win11.
when I enter slmgr /dli into cmd on win10 is says im on the RETAIL channel, however I don't have a key, the one listed in the registry is a generic digital key, and I also use a local account.
If I have to buy win11 then fine, but as its saying retail ed, can I somehow tranfer this to the new pc.

MB Question
As the requirement for win11 is tpm2.0, I don't see the module listed in the box contents, is this something you need to buy separate? or is it a software thing enabled in the bios?

GPU question
I do plan on getting a 5070, with all the reports if them going on fire tho mainly 5080/90 , make sure the cable pluged in fully, dont bend the cable to much etc
based on the current card i have, the distance from the edge of the card to the case panel is 60mm , so some bending will happen.
As I don't have the new power supply yet, I don't know how flexable the cable is. would it be a good idea to get a premium cable from corsair
another question about a GPU support bracket, is it advisable to get one

Thank for your help

32GB is fine for the vast majority of games, but 48GB would give you a little extra insurance, so I'd recommend that. That said, £170 is way too much, since you can get 64GB kits for that money.

6000 C30 kits are almost always intended for AMD, because that's what AMD themselves suggested as optimal for Ryzen 7000 CPUs. The 265K supports (at least, at stock) up to 6400, but from what I'm aware arrow lake's memory controller is very strong.

You don't need a TPM module for any modern PC, because they're integrated into the platform. You can buy one separately if you wish, which decouples it from your system (preferable if you're planning to switch out parts frequently, otherwise a waste of money).

Personally I wouldn't bother with a 5070, though some models are heavier than others.

What do you use your PC for, is it mainly gaming?

If so this would be superior to your choices, the Core Ultra series isn't all that great for gaming, although it can shine for productivity under heavy workloads (I'm not talking dabbling in photo editing or using MS Office):

- On par but cheaper NvME SSD, while on paper Gen 5 drives are faster in actual real world workloads you wont be able to discern the difference between them and Gen 4 unless you spend a lot of time transferring large chunks of data between drives.
- Superior CPU for gaming and on par for lighter work related tasks.
- On par PSU at a much better price, 750W is ample for a 5070, however the 850w version can be had for around £100.
- Cheaper memory, despite being slower latency wise it doesn't really matter as X3D CPU's don't care all that much about those things.

You could spring for a 9800X3D and still be under your initial costs if you want the best gaming CPU on the market and improved productivity.

Thanks Tetras & Gray2233 for you help

This will be my 4th major build, the previous one's were allways intel cpu, gigabyte mb, corsair psu & memory and since ssd came along always samsung, nVidia GPU and so far no issues
that being said I am open to change, originally the cooler was going to be Noctua NH-U12S Black @ £79.99 , but looking at posts on here a lot of people were recommending
the peerless assassin. checked out a review, and changed to that.

My main use will be gaming , forgot to add VR as well to first post.

Have decided on the 48gb ram recommendation, and do agree £170 is a lot, will look at other manufacturers, or would a higher C number make a noticable difference ? as these are cheeper

I will be honest, I have looked at reviews intel vs amd and I do agree for gaming amd is better, but for me to change to amd it is something I need time to think about.

Have just read a post on ssd's PCIe 4 vs 5, and as you say I will not notice any difference, so will change to that.

Cheers

The coverage on the Core Ultra CPUs and memory scaling has been very thin, especially in a gaming context, so I really have little to nothing to go on.

Personally, I'd be comfortable just buying Crucial's 48GB £100 kit, but how much performance you'll leave on the table? I don't know.

I think you can get a 6000 C36 48GB kit around ~£130, if you prefer.
