I have finally gone ahead and purchased my new build shown below:
  • Intel Quad-Core i7-4790K
  • EVGA Super NOVA 850W PC Power Supply - Gold
  • Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7 Intel LGA1150 Z97 ATX Motherboard (4x DDR3, 6x USB3.0, 6x USB2.0, HDMI, DVI-I, DSUB)
  • Crucial BX100 250 GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal Solid State Drive
  • WD 1TB 3.5 inch Internal Hard Drive - Caviar Blue
  • Alpenfhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler 120 mm
  • NZXT H440 Mid Tower Case with Side Window and 4 Quiet Fans for PC - White/Black
  • Team Group TLRED316G2400HC11CDC01 - TeamGroup Vulcan RED 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual

As you may notice, the two things I am missing is the Graphics Card and Monitor. I am still undecided on what to go for. The computer will be used for the occasional gaming (CS:GO, Battlefield..) and will be working more so with adobe software (Illustrator and Indesign).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  1. As for the graphics card, I have been looking at the MSI Radeon R9 390 GAMING AMD Graphics Card 8GB but wondering if I really need something as high spec as that. Are there any alternatives out there that will give great performance but not be so costly? The other concern I have is that my specification is of a fairly high standard so I do not want to dampen the overall performance by skimping out on a cheap g card.

  2. As for the monitor, I am looking for a 27" with either 2560 X 1440 or 1920 X 1080 ratio. Is there really any difference between the two? I have been recommended an IPS monitor as that will show the colours more vibrantly than others, (good for design software).

If anyone has any recommendations or advice for me I would really appreciate your reply.

Yes there is a big difference at 27 inches between 1080 and 1440, if you can stretch to a 1440 and something like a 980ti then you will definitely see the benefit, however if you stick with 1080 then you can get away with a cheaper GPU

You could also swap the 4790k to a 4690k if you wanted a cost saving for no real loss in performance.

I already have the above build. Just monitor and graphics to purchase now so I cannot change the i7 4790K, in the long run it is probably a good thing anyway.

I can't go as high as the 980ti, I am more than likely to go for something less than the R9 390. The R9 390 supports 1440p too though doesn't it?

What about the GTX 970? How would that compare with my build or is it quite similar?
As for the monitor I was hoping to spend around the £200 mark, but it may be pushing it?
