Hey guys need some advice,

Basically been helping a friend with a new conroe build. Any ways we have problems getting the computer to boot. All it does is power up and the fans spin. There's no BIOS beeping or anything, plus none of the normal noises like HDD thrasing etc.

It makes me think were doing something wrong, or CPU or mobo is borked? Built quite a few systems before and never had this happen to me, I need advice on what's wrong or action to take?

Much appreciated,
King :(

Have you tried turning it off and on again? </The I.T crowd>. Does the system stay on when you turn it on or does it turn itself off again?

Make sure you have all the necessary power connectors plugged into the mobo. There should be a 24pin mobo connector and an additional 4 pin connector as a minimum. RTFM to check this and see if there are any further connectors that need attaching.

Then try a CMOS reset and restart.

Ok the spec:

6300 conroe
1GB Geil
Asrock ConroeXFire-eSATA2 mobo
Tagan 500W
6600GT

There's more components but taken them out to try to get this working. Ok going to try, turning on again and ill keep u updated.

There's a VGA plug on the mobo, but manual said that it is optional. Will try using that aswell now.

I'd def try giving some power to that gfx card, it could easily be the problem.

A complete spec is somewhat required. Not everyone is gifted with telepathy.
well its not that important in this example is it as suggesting to trying booting up with the bare essentials i.e. cpu, mobo, psu would suffice...

if you have onboard gpu then dont plug ** pci e in for now

recheck all connections are secure and are where they should be by going over mobo manual or downloading one from manufacturers website

it well could be a borked mobo, remember that if it is then the fans would still spin and the mobo lights would still appear..

Ok the 6600GT doesn't need it's deadicated power connector, but I tried plugging in the VGA connector on the mobo and it doesn't make a difference.

Components - PSU, CPU, GFX and Mobo

All that happens with the above is the fans spin, there's no output signal from the graphics card.

I've changed the PSU and get the same results, also the 6600GT was spare component and definately works.

So I'm guessing something wrong with CPU or mobo. Does this sound like a dead motherboard?

have u reset the cmos and then tried booting?

also when u tried the onboard gfx was the 6600 not installed ?

sorry are u saying that mobo has onboard gfx? if yes and you tried that too then yes its a borked mobo..

It doesn't had onboard GFX, but the card definately works - comes from another rig.

I reset the CMOS (using jumper etc) but same thing fans just spin and nothing happens.

Fans keep spinning untill I turn off the psu.

u have a cold boot then, u need to take everything out of the case and try like that out of the case. try one stick of ram too!! and also make sure the board is not been short circuited anywhere!!

its probably the cmos, u need to just get in the bios once so u can load optimized defaults!!

Im assuming you bought this all from OCUK..

Give them a call and ask if they have any ideas..as a lot of conroe boards are problematic atm, its what comes with first generation goodies..
