ok so here it is.

i bought all the parts from OcUK and yesterday i put the system together.

everything booted fine and win 7 64bit installed successfully.

however on two instances (approx 1 hour apart from each other) the pc just shut down on its own and immediately rebooted...again on it's own.

i have not overclocked anything in the system and everything is brand new.

what do you guys think?

System specs would help;)

Are temps ok? try "hwmonitor" and "coretemp" to make sure all is ok.
If its an i7 rig, have you set you ram speed/timings/volts in the bios manually?

ah yes you're right. here are the specs:

processor: Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail

motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard

hard drives: 2 OCZ Vertex 30GB in RAID and WD Caviar Black 640GB

memory: Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel (TR3X6G1600C8)

graphics card: Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4890 Vapor-X 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

OS: windows 7 RC 64 bit.

in the bios all i did was set the raid and "load optimal configuration".

that's all.

Set the ram as per Corsair's specs (speed, timings.volts)
Try that and see how you get on.And dont forget to check your temps.

no not yet because i'm not at home.

will take a look late tonight and will report everything.

if temps are not high...what would be your suggestions to start with?

Setting RAM to recommended settings, testing the CPU to see how it copes with loads, again monitoring temps, then I'd move on to testing the system after removing different components (Try with Onboard VGA or alternative graphics card, one stick of RAM etc)

You should be able to narrow the problem down.

check eventvwr, w7 64bit blue'd on me a few times after leaving it to sit there, something to do with power management (basically blue'd as it went to sleep) could just check to see if yours is set to hibernate\sleep.

Intel burntest is very good for that or prime95.

great. i'll try that out.

one last thing i forgot to mention is my cpu cooler.

i bought this: Akasa AK-967 Nero Direct Contact Heatpipe CPU Cooler.

also i bought the Coolermaster CM690 Dominator - NVIDIA edition which has 3 fans and i added another three.

ok so a quick update.

(fingers crossed) it seems that the problem is resolved hopefully.

all i did was update the motherboard bios and so far so good.

my system passed both the intel burn test and prime95 tests successfully.

idle temps are about 48-50 degrees so still room for improvement but relatively happy with everything.

hopefully this will remain the case.

thanks to everyone for your help.

;)
