Hi overclockers,

I'd like to buy a new PC but I'm not 100% sure what components to get with my budget, which is £900. Here's my wishlist of what I'd like for my new pc:
  • cpu: 4670K or similar (ideally an unlocked cpu, since I'd like to OC it)
  • Small form factor: M-ITX or M-ATX size
  • ideally 16GB RAM. However but I wouldn't mind 8GB
  • graphics card: gtx 760 or better

Oh, and here's what I don't need:
  • Monitor
  • Optical drive
  • OS
  • mouse/keyboard

Any help with this would be totally appreciated.

Cheers!!

Hi there,

May i ask a few questions:
  • What is this rig for? Gaming? Video editing?
  • What res is your display?
  • Will this build be upgraded over the year, or just replaced when its time is over? :)

Hi Doomedspeed,

This rig would be for Gaming and a bit of video editing.
My display res is 1080p
I consider upgrading the graphics card in the future, but not over the year.

I can't do a basket right now.

If you want an mATX build I would suggest the Gigabyte Z87M-D3H and Coolermaster N200 (Or the Windowed N200).

For the rest of the build I would go with Doomedspeed's spec though I'd probably go down to 8GB RAM and use the savings on the RAM & case to get a 4770k or an R9 290. Then you could upgrade the RAM later if you feel you need it.

NOTE: The monitor in this basket is NOT mATX. Replace it with this mobo: Gigabyte Z87M-D3H
I can't put it in a basket right now because it's out of stock with no ETA but I think it's pretty popular so it should be back in really soon. It's the same exact price as the one in the above basket, I used the Z87-HD3 just to show you the price.

So, if you go for a 4670k, 8GB RAM and a slightly cheaper SSD you can fit a 290 in the build. Will be fracking awesome for gaming. $12 under budget. You could probably squeeze in the 840 EVO SSD.

EDIT: I just realised the 550W PSU may not be enough for the 290.
EDIT 2: Changed out the 550W for a 650W and still JUST under the budget.

I'd definitely go for the 290 and you won't be needing an upgrade any time soon.

Also, the case which Doomedspeed put in his spec is really nice, got mine today. A lot of space for upgrades too.

Thanks a lot for the specs guys. They look really good! I never heard about Super Flower PSU's before but after doing a google search it looks like they are quite good.

I've recently discovered the corsair 250d case and the more I think about it, the more I want it. In terms of size it's perfect for me. However that one is a Mini ITX instead of a Micro ATX.

I'm also considering having the system built by OcUK, which would give me a 2 year warranty but also means I would have to increase my budget in order to maintain the same level of quality in components as the ones you have specced me. That being said, what do you guys think about these custom build systems?

Photon Wrath: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-008-OG&groupid=43&catid=2475
  • Sapphire Radeon R9 280 Dual-X 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
  • Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO
  • Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB
  • Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel
  • Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor
  • Super Flower 550W PSU
  • MSI Z87I Gaming AC (Socket 1150) DDR3 mini ITX Motherboard
  • Corsair Obsidian 250D Mini ITX Gaming Case
  • 24 month warranty
  • Total: £1,007.54 (Includes shipping).

Photon Envy: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-007-OG
  • MSI GeForce GTX 760 OC Gaming Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
  • Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO
  • Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB
  • Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel
  • Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor
  • Super Flower 550W PSU
  • MSI Z87I (Socket 1150) DDR3 Mini ITX Motherboard
  • Corsair Obsidian 250D Mini ITX Gaming Case
  • 24 month warranty
  • Total: £1,038.59 (Includes shipping).

Main differences, apart from price, are graphics card (280 vs 760) and the motherboard. It seems that the Photon Wrath has a gaming motherboard but only supports up to 16GB of RAM whereas Photon Envy has a "normal" motherboard which supports up to 32GB of RAM.

What do you guys think? Any suggestions and or changes to these systems are totally welcome!
