Bought
MSI GD65
Intel i5 2500k.
Corsair Gaming series PSU.
8GB Corsair ram
CM 690II case

Which all arrived today and i put it together (my umpteenth PC build)

Now as soon as i switch the PC on from the PSU on/off button the PC turns itself on.
And when i shut down it just turns itself back on again.

Any ideas on what to check.

Possible short on the mb power start up pins. Disconnect the wires leading to the on/off switch at the front of ther case. It will probably not boot when you use the psu switch now. If that is the case, you have a crosswired switch or some sort of short on that switch.

Both of the above. But just incase, check that the power button on the case isn't stuck down.

Darn! Those simple answers are always the right answer. But why are the simple answers the last one we think of? One of lifes mysteries.

C'mon OP. We're busting to know the right answer. ;)

Forgot to mention that even with all the front switch cables and HDD LED etc all totally unplugged it switches itself on.

Yup. On reflection, the computers my firm uses in certain situations are bios configured to power up as soon as it sees mains in.

Possibly the wake on LAN stuff going a bit screwy - do ou have the LAN cable connected?

Hey mate, I had this exact same issue last year, just remove the CMOS battery, leave it out for a good 10 minutes and then put it back in.

So update.

Unplug Hard drives DVD's and USBs
Change PSU
Try different ram
Try different graphics card
Take out motherboard from the case to check for shorts....

are all steps I managed to avoid thanks to Dirty Blade.

Cheers for that. Worked a charm.
