Hi guys, following a thread and Sycho's advice (member of these forums of course!) I've built a computer with the below specifications, or rather my brother built it as he's quite experienced at doing so.

Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor
Gigabyte Z87-HD3 Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Seasonic G series 550w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply
TeamGroup Elite Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED38GM1600HC11DC01)
Corsair Carbide 200R Compact ATX Case - Black (CC-9011023-WW)
CoolerCooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler
MSI Radeon R9 280X Gaming Edition OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

The issue is the computer boots up but doesn't even get to the stage of turning the monitor on and don't appear to have a speaker cable in the case to attach to the motherboard in order to hear bleeps.

The computer boots up for around 6 seconds and restarts it's self in a constant loop.

We have tried all of the following:

*re-seated CPU
*checked for shortage issues (motherboard standoffs etc)
*tried both ram sticks seperately in different slots in all possible combinations including no ram
*tried a replacement PSU that is definitely working as is currently supplying my brothers PC
*tried the above with and without a dedicated graphics card
*tried with only power button connected to motherboard
*using mx3 thermal paste not the paste it comes with
*tried absolutely bare minimum which consisted of motherboard, CPU, cooler, PSU, ram (and also without RAM)

Tried resetting CMOS, resetting battery, checked every wire/connection/whatnot multiple times to be sure, tried multiple power cables to no avail.

Perhaps worth noting that when fully built all the fans come on including case fans however they are extremely quiet and very slow, don't know if this is an indicator but it's almost as if they're not getting enough power hence trying a different same wattage PSU and having the same problem as described.

Any help would be greatly appreciated but at this point we've much boiled it down to either a faulty motherboard (again, no audio or lights to detect specifically) or the CPU due to the same problem happening whether or not the GPU is installed.

Thanks in advance

Have had that issue before was faulty motherboard which probably is the case. :(

I had faulty motherboard plus faulty ram with my Haswell build...

Thanks guys,

Yeah Idleman, no issues there.

I'll ring OcUK tomorrow and let them know about this thread, it really sounds like the motherboard as Sycho said and hopefully get a replacement sent off tomorrow.

I have an almost identical issue, did you get to the bottom of it Afran?

Oh? But no, nothing new as of the original post, only that everyone has said it's likely the motherboard being defect and while it would sometimes potentially be the cpu, that it's a more rare case and the lack of power to the fans would again indicate the motherboard.

That said, my replacement motherboard will be here in the next 1-2 hours so will have an update in 3-4 hours or so, hopefully a good one. :(

****ing yes :) You have no idea how much I've been worried/stressing about this not working and having to go through more troubleshooting and RMA'ing however it turns out it was indeed just the motherboard being faulty!

New one arrived, we put it together outside of the case at bare minimum and then in the case with everything connected, no issues :D

glad you got it sorted mate, enjoy! :D:D:D

Just in case it helps anybody, I too have got mine working as below:

I ran the setup with ONLY 1 stick of RAM in slot 2, and a VGA cable connected to the on-board graphics, a visible boot!
I tried the HDMI, it failed to show on-screen
I swapped the RAM sticks in slot 2, they both worked, so they're not the issue

I then put a stick in slot 4 (as per the motherboard spec's) with VGA then HDMI connected, it failed to show on-screen

I removed the slot 4 RAM and inserted the graphics card, it failed to boot from both on-board and graphics card

I removed the graphics card and inserted RAM in slot 1 (against the manual spec), it was a visible boot again (both VGA and HDMI on-board), with the full 8GB of RAM?

I inserted the graphics card, that too worked?!

So I too am happy, I hope it lasts!
