Any reccomendations for better componants would be welcome. SLI is not 100 percent necessary, I am not sure on which board to use at the moment. It seems most of the best overclocking results with 6600 is still with 975 boards however i would prefer a newer chipset if possible hence the 680. I would also consider a 6400 instead of a 6600.

Budget is around £2k.

I am planning on overclocking to around 3.5ghz

The 975 boards should be fine, I would consider the 4300 instead of a 6400 personally.

Plus I would get rid of the Raptor, not IMO worth it unless you've got two and even then it's expensive, better off getting a pair of Seagate 7200.10s.

I think you mean Ghz mate :p plus overclocking in unpredictable so you might not make it to 3.5Ghz all chips are different.

Why 4300 over 6600 if I have the money?

Thought there was a bit more leeway on the 6400's for overclocking.

Mm yes I considered that however I have had issues with onboard RAID controllers and dont really feel like purchasing a controller card. But you are probably right from a price point perspectave. Can get 2 320gb Seagates for the same price.

Yes of course I mean Ghz :) Getting late in the afternoon at work here.

3.5 Is an aim that i am basing the rest of the componants around, cooling/MB/ram etc as i know some CPU's clock better then others. I would also consider watercooling with a cheaper chip if you guys thought that would yield better results.

About £100 Cheaper, but whats £100 when you are spending £2000.

I am about to order so final critiques / additions are welcome.

I'd stick with the e6600 at that budget, I have the BFG 680i mobo and have my e6600 at 3.015GHz at v1.28 vcore. You might get higher overclocks with the DS3/4, but I have been really happy with my 680i.

You'll be able to leave the RAM at stock with a 680i, so you could get cheaper 6400 RAM. However, if you went DS3/4, you should get that Team extreme, and head for 500MHz FSB (and use a 6300 for that) ;o)
