New PC Build

It's that time again where I feel I need to build a new PC and sell off my old one to a friend who wants to play some retro DirectX 9 games :p

Anyway I'm thinking around the £3000 mark but I'd love for it to be under that.

Things I have my eyes on are:

Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX9650 3.00GHz
Dell Ultrasharp 3008WFP 30" Widescreen LCD Monitor
Asus GeForce 9800 GX2 1024MB GDDR3

I need some advice from here. I'm talking complete build, so everything down to a DVD burner and a copy of Vista Ultimate (yikes, gunna miss XP Pro but I need the support for multi-core).

Anyone think they can spec me a system for under 2k that will drive the Dell Ultrasharp at full 2560 x 1600 resolution?

In general £3000 is way too much to spend on one machine. You'd be better off spending half now and half again some time down the road when you feel like you need an upgrade. At that price point you're far up the performance/pound curve.

BTW, XP Pro works just fine with multiple processors and cores. It's licensed for up to two sockets, regardless of core logical processor count.
