how much do you want to spend?

I would get the 60gb ssd its only a bit more.

well i have quite a bit to spend, lest say 1500 +- a bit, i dont want to spend to close to 2000 so the lower the better.

Quite a monster you have created there. What are you going to be running on it?

Hi, i am going to using it for gaming a lot, bit of encoding and video playback, and Windows 7 not sure if its 32 or 64 yet hence the retail windows and not OEM

i also dont want to upgrade for quite a few years is another key thing (i know thats hard at times)

You want to get the 64bit version of Windows 7 or you will be limited to 4Gb of memory.

My build this year started looking similar to that. But after some advice on here and other research I dropped the mobo down to a 890GX. The CPU down to the Phenom X4 as so few things can take advantage of 6 cores.

With the money saved you could bump the video card up to a 5870 which pretty good value now as the 6xxx series have been announced.

Guessing from the list above your budget is around £1400 - £1500 or so.

Looks like a good spec but what is your budget? and what are you planning on using it for? Might be able to suggest better choice of components.

You will have to add on W7 and what dvd drive you want. Then it should still leave you some ££ if you want more ram, fans and so on...

ok yeh i forgot about that, so it will be 64bit windows then.

the reason behind the 6 cores is so i dont have to upgrade for ages, i know nothing uses it, but i can still gain performance from they dynamically clocked three cores, which i hear are quite good for gaming, and yes i will be looking for a better graphics card as the 6xxx is out :)

whats wrong with the mobo? i hear its quite good for overclocking?

ok, i aint a very big water cooled fan, so i wont be getting anything like that but the rest looks interesting, reasons behind choices?

well tbh the reasons... just looks good!, I'm not great at specs but if I was going to spend £1500 id go for something like what I put, you can make a few changes like add the AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1090T Black and swap out the h70 for a good air cooler.
I am sure someone will be along soon to add to/ rip apart what I have said! :)

Edit: a few changes

hey again, cooler wont work, its not got a AM3 Socket which the CPU is so need to change that, but apart from that it looks ok.

but like i said just need a bit of reasoning behind the choices, pros/cons of it

i5 is where its at for gaming.

ok, looks nice.

i like to keep my options open so, what mobo would you recommend for a AMD CPU?

think i would only really change the SSD to a smaller size, i dont really need it to big, 60GB would do.

i also would prefer an retail windows 7 copy, i hate OEM's they cause so many problems when upgrading.

oh yeh also whats the performance of the graphics card? would it be better than the 5870?

for a AMD motherboard it would have to be either,

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-251-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1782

both support dual gpu's(crossfire) but the Gigabyte has SATA and USB3.0 too.

The new 6870 cards are equal in speed to a 5850, but if you ever added a second one for a crossfire setup then they are a lot faster than two 5850's due to crossfire scaling performance being almost completely sorted out, they use less power too!!! hence the 650w psu.

the other advantage of going Intel is the chance of either SLI or Crossfire, which that motherboard in the above spec supports.

ok, so to really benefit two would be best, also whats wrong with the Asus Crosshair IV Formula AMD 890FX ? i thought it was quite good?

i think http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-281-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1782 would be the one i choose, slightly upgraded over the http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-251-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1782

with what you said about retail copy of win7 and a smaller SSD.
