Hi all, new to posting to the forums but have been prowling them for a while :)

After being a laptop user for the last few years, I would like to get back in to PC gaming and build my own system. I have never done this before and am unsure of what parts to buy. I will probably be building it in the next 2 -3 weeks.

I have a budget of around 1000 - 1200 to build a fairly decent gaming rig that can play all the lastest games ( e.g. Skyrim, BF3, Diablo III ). I have a mouse and keyboard but will need an OS and monitor. Could you guys maybe spec me a few options? I would also like to overclock although I don't think I will be running SLI / Crossfire any time soon.

Thanks, much appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

Right at the top end of your budget but with plenty of scope to cut back too if you want to save money. (For example switch to a smaller power supply and non SLI/Crossire motherboard, cheaper case etc).

Remeber that quite a few of these items are on offer only until tomorrow 9am only and will change so although these may be well priced right now, they probably won't be in a couple of weeks time but should give you a good idea of what you can get.

Thanks for the advice guys, some really good options here. Definitely have a lot to think about now :). Do you think i should get an i5 2500k or the i5 3570k? I would like to overclock my PC to maybe 4 - 4.5 ghz and I've been reading that the Ivybridges run really hot when overclocking compared to the Sandys, or is this just at the higher clock speeds, e.g above 4.5 ghz?

Stick with the 3570K, it isn't much more expensive. Heat is only really an issue for the large overclocks. Also remember that 4.5GHz on IB is similar in performance to ~4.7GHz on SB.
