New PC Build

Hi all.

I've built a few PCs in the past so putting one together myself is something I'm already used to..

I'm wanting to build a new PC next week as don't currently have one. I'll have a budget of max £650 (don't need windows, monitor mouse or keyboard.). I live in Guernsey, Channel Islands, so I am fortunate to not have to pay VAT, which leaves extra room for the build.

The sole purpose of the PC will be to play WoW Legion on maxed out settings.

I feel conflicted between AMD and Intel. There's lots of different opinions out there, and I am finding it extremely difficult to decide which to go for.

I'd appreciate if someone could put together a build together for me.

Is the £650 max budget with or without vat ? and what resoloution will you be gaming at ?
As above.

And do you have any spare HDDs that can be re-used?

Don't be - either flavour is fine but Ryzen is the better bang for buck.

@Jlgsy94

bang on £650 minus VAT & delivery !
My basket at Overclockers UK:

Pushed Ryzen 1600 with 6 cores/12 Threads - mine easy over clocks past 3.8Ghz and this box comes with a cooler.
3200 ram which should be support at XMP - Ryzen loves ram speed.
RX 570 4GB is plenty to max out @ 1080p and is Aorus version so should be cool and quiet!
nice case with a bit of glass to allow you to have a peak at our system now and again! boom

forgot to mention NVMe for OS to keep it fast and sweet and then 2TB HDD for gaming

I've used Kolink PSUs for budget builds and do just fine! havent had coil whine with them yet and that was powering a Gigabyte G1 1080 :D

if you need more ram add it in later, 2x4GB kits have more support from Vendors/AMD at the moment and push the speed :D

intel version £4 more

It doesn't yet - still very much a lottery, even with the beta AGESA release.

I've setup 2 rigs using the same memory but it's only stable at 2933MHz (same board but ATX), but that's with the XMP set with manual multiplier settings. With updates there's a possibility they'll hit 3200Mhz - but still no guarantee it will support XMP.

Some have had success (usually setting memory manually and tweaks) - but it's still a silicon lottery which will hopefully get better with updates.

EDIT: A GTX G1 1080 coupled with Kolink PSU - you have balls :D

It took X99 about a year to correct the mistakes of Intel with Vendors having to release OC sockets - Yes will take time with Ryzen too but RAM prices are increasing, @Gibbo has already mentioned this again and again, also recommended to buy Faster and down clock. Least when AMD and vendors get speeds faster and faster, End user doesn't have to fork out for better ram and double the costs etc

I dread to think of the costs with Ram by end of the Year. Demand will increase with x299 as well.

I've had a £200 corsair PSU give whine with a Z270 board but not with Z170 version, luck of the draw I guess, also all PSUs are made by about 3 or 4 Factories in china haha.
would have loved to of put down a better brand of PSU but budget is tight to gain a good spec, plus I believe OCUK have the warranty covered with the Kolink brand? cant remember though

Agreed, ignoring spec me threads where you have a finite budget, i too usually put in 3200Mhz kits in the same hope.

When speccing tight budgtets though - if i can get 2933MHz at £120 - it's a tough call. Swings and roundabouts...

You and me me both - it sucks now.

Heh, coil whine at £36 i could live with - it's the quality of the combined components that make me nervous. Not sure the warranty covers the death of your GTX 1080 when it dies - as mentioned ballsy :D (pastymuncher, if he sees this thread will be far less diplomatic - would be funny though.)
