Hi there,
It's been 4 or 5 years since i built my existing PC.
AMD 3000+
2GB RAM
7900 GFX
(TBH i forget all the exact specs but you get the gist)

I'm thinking of upgrading to the following spec next payday

Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 Intel X58
OCZ Reaper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-15000
Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4890 Plus 1GB GDDR5
OCZ ModXStream Pro 700w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Modular Power Supply
Samsung SpinPoint F1 750GB SATA-II 32MB Cache
Antec 900 Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case
Samsung SH-S223Q/RSMN 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer Lightscribe ReWriter
Titan TTC-NK85TZ Fenrir CPU Cooler

Total : £951.26

I'm trying to keep my budget under a grand, and i may be getting a bit giddy with the MOBO as although i would like to overclock, i have absolutly no experiance in this area and it may warrent a cheaper MOBO as i may not want to experiment on my shiny new set up.

I also have a copy of 64Bit Vista OEM which i installed on my old system for about 2 hours until it was obvious that it ran like crap. I'm wondering if i'd need a new copy of vista or if i might be able to blag M$ to allow me to install it on the new set up?.....or even install windows 7 until the "free period" runs out?

I really want the best bang/buck setup i can afford on a budget and i'd welcome any advice on how to improve my purchase.

Thanks

Noo don't buy an overclocked bundle! Far more fun to do it yourself and it's very hard to break anything overclocking, just be careful with voltages when you get to that point. Anyway if you buy ready-overclocked because you haven't learnt about it yet, when are you gonna learn about it?

That said, looks like a nice setup there. Are you aware that the titan fenrir is a tad on the noisy side? Only issue I have with it as it is a fantastic cooler.

In terms of the OS, I never had much success with that kind of thing myself but I know others have so it's definitely worth a crack. If not Windows 7 as you say will be fine for quite a long time yet.

Thanks for the replies guys, if i take out the CPU, MOBO & RAM and add the O/C bundle it's only £3 extra, so i guess it kinda makes sense and if i feel brave i could play about O/Cing myself at a later date. I think the only change is with the RAM, would the 12800 RAM make much difference in permformace as opposed to the 15000? I wouldn't have thought i'd see much of a difference?

I'll chance it with the OS and see if i can blag MS to activate it on the new system, seeing as it wouldn't work great with the old system.

i spec'd this for someone else its worth a look:D
