New PC cannot connect to WiFi

A computer that I ordered from OCUK arrived today and when I set it up, it would not connect to the internet.

I ordered the computer with a ASUS PCE-N15 11n Wireless adaptor, which was able to infrequently detect WiFi signals despite remaining in the same place the whole time. When it did detect a network, it was with extremely low strength. This is not a router problem as another computer that I tested connected in the exact same location.

I'm not sure what the problem is and would appreciate any tips or bits of advice as to what I should do.

The broadband provider is Virgin.

Thanks in advance and if any more information is required, I will do my best to provide it.

May sound daft but have you connected the aerials? Using latest drivers? Does device manager detect it and report any problems?

What is your WiFi setup? Has the channel been manually set to 12 or 13 as a well behaved router won’t acceot a connection on channel 12 or 13.

Your "daft" is my clever it appears!
Turns out I forgot to add the aerials despite seeing and recognising them...
Thank you both so much for your help
