Okay my brother needs a new PC, so i'm giving him my one (in my sig) and i'm going to get myself a new one. I've been looking at the Dells Desktop line up and i am wondering, with their mobos, in the Dimensions 9200, i have added a
Intel® Viiv™ Core™ 2 Duo E6420 Processor (2.13GHz,1066MHz,4MB cache). Will i be able to overclock this well? If so, how much to on stock cooling?

Thanks

I don't think you can overclock very well (if at all) on Dell machines. But I would wait for a second opinion. :)

It may be better to get a custom built pc (or take a look at the prebuilt range ocuk do) so if you wanted to upgrade in the future you wouldn't need to change the entire machine?

Tut tut. I would never buy a Dell but each to their own
Problem is, my dad wants to buy a dell. So i guess i'm either stuck to upgrading my own computer and giving my brother the dell or trying to overclock the dell.

Well I would say to him, if you were to get a dell machine, you would be very limited as to what upgrade options you have available to you in the future. If you purchased a custom built, or a prebuilt one (e.g. from here) then you would be able to upgrade it easily should you want to. It would save you money in the long term. :)

Why does your father want a Dell? Caught up in marketing hype? I have dealt with Dell after sales, and horrible taste in my mouth. Dell cases are really low quality.

Buy standard PC parts and build it yourself.

well, i bought a dell on march-ish time and i had it 3 months then i used everything out of but the ram and mobo and built my own. this was a year ago.. and am now trying to get my dell back up and runnin with a celron d chip so i can use it as a file server as its got 512mb of ram and a 80gig harddrive but yeh dell bios are carpp

I deal with DELL in work and found their CS to be great. Mind you that was the next day business support.

Also why bash dells, there is nothing wrong with them now a days. And you should be able to up-grade one just fine, for example make sure you get one with a PCI-Express slot and your flying.

On the dells i think the only machine that you can overclock easily is the XPS range.

BTW try google, i just searched for overclocking dells and got a few results

How about alienware desktops. Can you overclock them easily?

Speak to your father and tell him you will save money by buying your own. You could even tell him about the pre built machines on overclockers which you can then just overclock =.

Yes but how about the PSU that might not be powerful enough for a next-gen graphics card? AFAIK some DELLs have dodgy spec PSUs that cannot be easily replaced by a normal retail one.

Some DELL cases are not even big enough for a full size top end GFX, plus you may also need to worry about cooling.

The nightmare begins the second you start upgrading a DELL.
