New PC! disk boot failure. insert system disk and press enter

My friend just purchased this from OC: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-181-OK

He didnt get a OS with it as he has his own bootable CD so i advised he will be able to install it himself. Well apparently not, cant get past this error message:
"disk boot failure. insert system disk and press enter"

Set the priority to the CD-rom drive in the Bios but just cant get it to boot.

I tried the CD on my PC and it works fine.......

ANy help? thanks

Change to ide mode in the bios
Hit F8/F11/whichever key it is to select cd rom during boot
If there is no cd rom visible in the bios then it's partly unplugged, take the side off and it'll be very obvious which cables you need to reseat

Is the CD drive seen by the BIOS?

Like Jon says (clever chaps us Jons), should be F8 at startup to choose from the boot options.

Also you should get "Press any key to boot from CD" when it is selected as the boot device, during boot. (This message is from the CD's bootloader). If you miss that message, the system will move on to the next boot device.

is detected in the bios (i assume thats the drive

)

i opened the thing up anyway and everything seems to be in order, i double checked anyway.

my boot menu is F12 from start up and i select CD-ROM from that menu but still nothing.

i dont get the press enter to boot from CD message, it just goes straight to

boot from CD-ROM
INSERT SYSTEM DISK etc...

is the Disk properly burned? can you possibly try it on another computer?

I had a similar problem - my new pioneer drive could not read the format of the Windows 7 UDF iso disk even tho it read ok in my old XP pc.

I had to copy the files onto a bootable USB stick in the end to get an OS on it

I had this error when i put it another hdd. Mke sure you habve the boot order correct, and also i had to select to order of he HDD to be booted (Vista one before second hdd).

or if you are using the windows 7 iso - download a free trial of ultraiso - then select the win7 iso then select bootable > write disk image and it does it all for you without the diskpart faffing around
