hi everyone, im currently in the process of buying a computer for my 14 year old boy to play world of warcraft with me for xmas, this will be the main game played so i'm aiming for something that will play this comfortably but not worried if its Full graphics. I currently have a geforce 9800gt which can be used for this pc, i have spare ram also but they appear to be ddr2 and i see no dd2 motherboards available. and im looking to spend no more than £250, i know this is a small budget, so please bare with me

so far I have :

* "Primo 500i" Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad DDR3 Ready Barebones - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-269-OK
* Intel Pentium Dual-Core E6600 "LGA775 Core 2" 3.06GHz - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-388-IN
* Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit. - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-095-KS

I built my own computer around 4-5 years ago and cannot remember what else i would need to purchase to get this barebones system up and running?

Sorry for my ramblings i hope someone can decipher what i've said.

Hey, thanks for your fast reply :)

I actually have an old sata hd that i can use for this build and the graphics card I have a geforce 9800 gt that can be used for this build, also i believe i have an old optical drive laying around somewhere lol.

i've looked locally for second hand pc's and have had no luck at all :( ebay is bloody confusing for whole pc systems i find. i am going to make a cup of tea and look into what you have said above

ok. hopefully i've understood and updated my build correctly.

Remembering I have a spare hdd and a 9800gt. This works out to £187.93 which is within budget. what about cables and compound to secure processor etc? and processor fan etc. i'm lost on the rest of it :)

ok, home and priced up again :P

i've gone with the

Intel Core i3-2100 3.10GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £95.99

MSI H61M-E33 Intel H61 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard **B3 REVISION** £46.99

Corsair Builder Series CX 430W V2 '80 Plus' Power Supply (CMPSU-430CXUKV2) £39.98

Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/4GX) £19.98

What else cable wise and i remember a silver compound that i had to attach to the processor and then a metal unit and fan. is that right?

Thanks a lot :)

I'm gonna order this as soon as i get home from work, was gonna be ordering it now, but i've left my card at work, doh!

btw, after ordering all this as you've all been so helpful, i think ill be back to upgrade my pc. lol to think, i ordered my very first PC from you years ago, now i'm doing the same for my son :)

hey guys, put my computer together over the last couple of nights, all went together pretty smoothly, clicked the power button and it powers up for 2 secs max and then shuts downs again. it simply wont do anything else. strange very high pitch noise coming from the psu but nothing that if it worked i would overly think about.

i've done a bit of googling and seem to find that its a bad mobo. not sure if you guys have any ideas ?

unfortunately i haven't got my camera, but i will upload some tomorrow after work. ive tried everything other than mobo and processor, still responds the same

yup put the stand off in the case. my psu is a corsair, so i guess its branded. not sure if its man enough i think its 430, but im running i3 on a budget build. so it should be capable enough to at least fire up the mobo and processor right? i also added a bit of thermal compound as when i removed the hsu i could see that the pre applied paste wasnt nearly enough, so i applied an even layer. Still nothing. im borrowing a computer tomorrow to try and test this out. always been worried about moving the processor after its been housed. is that a safe process?

Hey guys. Sorry it's been a while to reply back on whats happened, had a hectic time that took me away from my pc.

Anyway, after getting home from work the next day, feeling confused about the pc. i push the power button and it powers up, I install windows, and everything else! give this bad boy pc to my boy for xmas and get the biggest hug i've ever had. Get home and set up the pc next time mine. turn it on, install wow. = fall head over heals in love with overclockers forums.

Seriously guys, for the money I couldn't have asked for more.very fast boot up, couldnt complain about anything 60fps stable on good settings for graphics on wow.

All I can say is thanks a lot guys from the bottom of my heart :)

I'll get some pics up as soon as i can :)
