After a spec for a new PC for my 15y.o. lad, with at least a 4060 in it preferably; what would give most longevity for around £1k?what extra would £1200 give?

No monitor, keyboard or mouse needed, but does need operating system.

Will be used for gaming and some graphical design.

He’s into sea of thieves, but likes all kinds of things and his old one is really struggling now gtx 750 I think.

Is this a self-build? You posted in the OCUK Full Systems section, so I was not sure.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,231.87 (includes delivery: £11.98)

Spec assumes that you use the CPU's bundled cooler.

I'd push for the 4070 as a minimum if you're glued to Nvidia, the 4060 is not a good purchase for the money.

Upper end of your budget, if you're open to AMD GPU's the 7900XT is in another league compared to the 4070.

Double check that the GPU fits in that case if you decide to go for it.

Hold in mind it comes with a copy of Starfield which should redeem a good amount of the cost, even if neither you or your son are interested in playing it you can sell it on.

I've built a few PC's in the past couple of years and have never spent more than £20 on a Windows licence.
