I am looking to buy a new gaming PC. This is my first Gaming PC I will have bought in nearly 20 years so I do not know where to start.
I have a budget of up to £2500. This is to include a monitor and Oculus Rift VR headset. I will also need a copy of windows 10.
The system will be used almost exclusively to play racing sims, mainly Assetto Corsa. I am currently Playing the game on X Box so I already have a Playseat and Logitech G920 wheel.
Is this budget enough for a system capable of playing race sims in VR?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

It’s a very good budget.

  • Do you need mouse & keyboard within the budget? Fancy or cheap?
  • Will you build it yourself?
  • Are you willing to overclock?
  • How much storage do you want?

I already have a keyboard and mouse. If I wanted to upgrade these I would do it at a later date. I will be having the system built for me. As to overclocking I am not really sure. What are the advantages and disadvantages? I am also not sure about how much storage I will need. I am not likely to be loading a huge number of games as I tend to stick to a few racing games.

Sorry for late reply.

Overclocking provides more power from the system, for free. The disadvantages are mainly additional heat and power draw, which requires decent cooling. If you’re going pre-built I wouldn’t bother with overclocking initially. Let me put something together for you tomorrow, more questions for now:
  • Do you store much media? (Pics & videos)
  • What is your current disk useage?
  • What size system do you want?
    • ATX?
    • mATX?
    • ITX?
  • Any particular colour scheme?
  • Do you want a windowed case?
  • If you’re doing VR do you have any specific connector requirements / locations?
  • What I/O do you need on the front of the case?
  • Do you want something big, flashy and awesome? Or modest, sleek and classy?
  • Is silence important?
  • What sort of monitor do you want?
    • Aspect ratio? 16:9? 21:9? 16:10?
    • Size? 24”? 27”? 34/35”?
    • Refresh? 100Hz+? Or ok with 60Hz?
    • Adaptive Sync Technology?
    • IPS? TN? VA?
    • Need VESA mounting?
  • Do you want speakers, or some headphones with the system?
That should do for now. I’ve just realised the budget needs to include a monitor AND and Oculus Rift... how much will the VR headset cost you in total?

Thanks for taking the time to reply. As far as aesthetics and case size are concerned I'm not really bothered .Space isn't an issue and I'm not bothered how the system looks. I won't need any additional storage for pictures etc as I will be using my laptop for general computing. This system will be used for gaming only .
I think that the ability to connect VR through a front port would a useful feature. The Oculus Rift will cost me £350.
A 24" monitor with 16:9 ratio will be fine for me and I would prefer 100hz if possible within the budget. I don't need to budget for either speakers or headphones .
Again many thanks for taking the trouble to reply .
PS not to worried about silence as I tend to have the sound high
