Hi folks,
My current pc is about 7 years old and now is about to die as various parts have started to fail. I have preordered windows 7 so I think the best idea is to get a new PC built/bought when this comes out in October.

A few questions..

As i am out of the loop on new hardware, is there any major releases in new tech around oct which would influence a new machine? Will there be a whole lot of new parts on the market by then so not worth looking at anything until october time?

I'd like to be able to run the latest games but not looking for an uber gaming rig.

I'm quite open to buying a barebones system to take out the work of building it from scratch.

I wouldnt want to spend more than about £650 or so.
I have a monitor, keyboard and mouse but its probably a start from scratch on the tower and contents.

Any opinions would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
David

I'm sure someone will be able to do better than me. But for under £600 that's a pretty good system. There may be something I've missed out - not sure.

I always choose at least two HDDs, you may only want one. You could also opt for a Blu Ray drive instead of the DVD one since you have the headroom.

thanks for that.
can i also add that id like to use 64-bit windows if this makes a difference.

is it worth using ddr3 ram? and more than 4gig?

To be honest, I'd wait until October. Prices will fluctuate before then. Everyone's looking forward to the release of intel's i5 processors around that time and prices will drop on existing hardware.

Pretty much any processor you buy new nowadays will be 64-bit as well.

Oh and welcome to the forums :)

I think 4gb ram is enough for Windows 7 x64. good system posted above, I can vouch for the arctic cooling pro its a top cooler.

Shipping has taken it a bit over the £650; if you really want to save money take out the SSD and you've still got yourself an awesome system there - I just put the SSD in as I had £100 left over and they're pretty cool!!!
