All I'd like some advice on purchasing new PC and monitor.
I'll have to have a pre-build as I'm not really interested in building my own . I'd like it to be no noisier than my current setup. If a quite fan costs ~£100 more then fine. I wont need anything water cooled.
My current PC is a very old:
So I'm in the market for a new PC for a mix of desktop work (programming /VisualStudio) and gaming (~8 hrs a week). The main games I play are FPS. Currently Overwatch, Squad and good old TF2.
General requirements are:
I'm after something that will be good lifespan and will last a few years (can do VR & 4K). I can replace the GFX card in a few years but that's about it.
CPU. I'm not sure about this i5/i7 etc. I'd like to get on a new architecture X99 (if possible) and don't mid spending a extra hundred quid to do so and save myself future upgrade hassle.
GPU again I don't have a clue about GPUs apart from I'll lots of video outputs - enough for a one new monitor plus the three I currently have. I use a lot of desktop space for work. So I'm planing to add a new monitor (either a Asus PG348Q or XB321HK). Currently I only game on one of the screens and I'm planning to continue to do that on a larger screen. I won't be attempting any triple head setups for gaming.
Memory:
Even though it wont be used for gaming I'l like 32GB and I uses a lot of moment when programming and It speeds up application switching.
Monitor:
I'm looking at adding (either a Asus PG348Q or XB321HK). I was leaning towards the ultra-wide until I went to a well known (very posh) shop in London and looked at their limited selection of display of motors. They had a HP/4K monitor and I though the display was much sharper that than the AcerX34 monitor that was near by. I'm not that serious a gamer and I think the 32"4K would be better desktop use as long as the GFX card card can drive it.
Case: I'd like something with plenty of easy access and is easy to maintain. I think the Fractal Design Define XL R2 Midi Tower Case would be a ideal as it looks nice and the buttons/ports on the top face would be useful.
Disks: something like 250GB SSD + 1/2TB mechanical will do. I've gold some old drives but I'll keep them in the old PC.
Audio: No special requirements Built in sounds will to. I have speakers.
Keyboard/Mouse : Already have.
Budget is up to 2K excluding the monitor. but that might be overkill for the games I playing. I just want to make sure it's not too much overkill.
